Prime Holmes v Prime Lennox: Who wins...

holmes would probably make lewis look clumsy at times

 

Holmes is better in every department. Lewis,s jab doesnt hold a candle to Holmes.
Holmes outboxes Lewis every day of the week.

I think Holmes should win a decision over prime Lewis. Holmes' arsenal is better and he can change styles to suit. No walk in the park though.

 

The right hand of Lewis will make this fight interesting. Lennox had the kind of right hand that could level you. Holmes resilient, has the better jab but Lennox the size and power. Both men rough and ready. Stamina edge going to Holmes. Lennox could get to Holmes before 8 if not could take the 12 rd. Nod, if 15 rds Holmes could turn it in the championship rounds.

Another key point is that Holmes got off the floor to win, Lennox did not but Lennox also could box a bit besides punch...not an easy fight for either

 

Holmes was tentative with and dropping some rounds to Cooney. Imagine Cooney being even stronger, faster and far more skilled by far and more durable. What would Holmes' answer for that be?

 

After the fight, the ring would be spotless, because Holmes would mop the floor with Lennex. Larry is in a whole nother class. Lewis could nail him with that good right of his, always a possibility, but Larry should outclass him easily

 

Holmes isn't in a different class. Both are top ATG Heavyweights.

It's 50/50 for me, unless it's a 15 round fight then I'd give it to Holmes 60/40. Nobody outclasses Lennox Lewis, who's as accomplished as they come, and nobody outclasses Larry Holmes.

 

Look at Holmes in his 40's vs Mercer and McCall and look at a prime Lewis vs Mercer and McCall.

 

Lewis was only in his physical prime against McCall, he hadn't technically matured under Steward yet. And styles make fights.

 

Lennox struggled against shorter guys who threw punches from outside the line of his sight. He was a beast against men of similar size and height. I believe Lennox would hurt Larry perhaps even numerous times, change the dynamics of the fight and win a decision. He was a vicious puncher when he wanted to be, much more then Holmes.

It could be argued that LL's jab was better as well. Even though Larry's was better from A to B and he relied on his jab more, Lennox had more variety on it. He hooked off it and threw change-ups. Lennox was more creative with his jab.

Holmes was not the hardest to hit either. In fact, he was easy to hit clean and struggled and had moments of crisis in almost all his big fights. (Weaver, Shavers, Norton, Snipes etc).

Lennox's better defense, better temperament, better one punch power makes the difference.

I go with Holmes, but Lewis is not slouch, either.

Both of them have strong points; but at the end Larry comes like the one with better stamina and longer endurance

Thus, it is Holmes by decission.

 

A competitive match-up. Lenox would not be the goon that many fans think that he would be, he would be as stiff a challenge as anyone that holmes fought. He knew how to fight and how to use his physical attributes well.

He also owned a good jab and the weapon that holmes was most susceptible to, a big right hand. Anyone with these factors going for them would be a stern test for anyone.

However, I would have to pick holmes because he had a better jab, better movement and more speed hand and foot. He would use these advantages to get in and out, moving side to side and keeping lewis off balance. He would have to be wary of the lewis right and if he got caught there is a chance that he could be knocked out. Lewis was a smart fighter in his own right and he knew what to do when he had his opponent hurt.

I would pick the best version of holmes to decision the best version of lewis by decision, probably by about 3 rounds.
