Prime Holmes v Prime Lennox: Who wins...

I fancy Lewis for this.

Larry would cause a lot of problems for Lewis jabbing with pressure but i think than Lewis would start to land those big right hands and do some fine old slugging.

I think Lewis has the best chance of any heavyweight to KO Holmes but i just dont see Holmes KOing Lewis.

After some fine slugging from Lewis after a few rounds i see the fight starting to go his way.

I would say i slightly favor Lewis to win a decision although its close.

Lewis simply has more ways to win.

 

I like Larry, his speed and quick jab take a decision, but Lewis is a night mare for all heavyweight champs imo .
Holmes's jab is one of the greatest of all time, Lewis's does not come close ,imo.

 

I'd be favouring Larry.

He's need to be sharp and switched on, but then this is a prime vs prime so that really goes without saying.

I think Holmes can outfox and jab battle Lewis to a UD win. I don't imagine he'd be stupid enough to take the risk of pushing for a stoppage. No point taking the chance of a desperation right hand from a good right hander.

 

holmes by late stoppage he would outbox lewis and stop him in 9 or 10 .

 

I would go with Holmes via split decsion! He was a little faster, had the better jab, and better on defense. Lewis of course hit harder, but he also had a suspect chin.

The main reason for the Holmes pick is Lewis had trouble with good jabbers....Mercer, and Klitschko, and at times had a blind spot for right hands which was Holmes best power punch.

 

50/50 fight.

 

Holmes by schooling. Lewis does not have the jab to beat holmes. It would be a chessmatch, and lewis's only shot would be a right hand bomb to knock him out.

 

Holmes would outbox Lennox over the distance. And Larry's jab was better.

THIS - and Frank Bruno was another one who used a good jab to dominate first 6 rounds and he was was awfully slow and robotic - Holmes I think would really outbox Lewis - Lewis apart from a couple of times when he came out of his skin tended to accept the type of fight in front of him and try to win that kind of fight - I think he would try to box with Holmes and to be cute and crafty like him - Larry was much better at that game really it came more naturally to him - I think Larry wins a distance fight maybe not fully dominates all rounds but enough to boss the fight

 

hmm probably holmes.. the only thing lennox has over holmes is power.. holmes has the better chin, the better jab more boxing technique, he is also faster then lennox.. i don't see larry ko ing lennox but a clear and unanimous descision win

 

Agreed.

Neither guy is dominating or getting a ko over the other.

 

Larry Holmes got up from Earnie Shavers, so I'm thinking he takes to school the talented, but somewhat gun-shy Lennox Lewis in a UD in a 12 rounder, possible 13th to 14th round stoppage in a 15th rounder.

 

I would lean towards Holmes for similar reasons already provided by other posters.. It would not be a given however. Lewis would be by far the best big man that Holmes ever faced, and there were already a few decent big men who gave him plenty of trouble, who weren't on Lennox's level... Lewis's powerful right hand, ( a weakness for Holmes ), combined with his decent mobility for a big guy and other tools would make for a dangerous fight.. Again I am picking Holmes but he'd have to be at his absolute best to pull it off ( 1978 - 1982 ), and even then it would be a close one.... The Holmes who fought Tim Witherspoon onward, probably doesn't beat Lennox Lewis.
