We all definitely talk too much about the big guys. Still, it's fun.

Honestly, I think Holmes takes this one by TKO in the 12th.

I like Tyson a lot better than Holmes (as a fighter). However, Tyson would have struggled against the best version of Holmes.

The sad thing is, when you fight a past-his-best fighter, and you take as much as one jab, you'll immediatly hear people here "wow, if he fought a prime version he would've been layed out!"

You can bet that if Ibragimov beats Holyfield more one-sidedely than Klitschko-Williams, but Holyfield manages to land one left hook in the 1st that all Zakman's come out "prime Holyfield would've STARCHED him in 1 round". I do think Holyfield in his prime takes Sultan, but i don't need to see a fight like this one to "conclude" that.

That's funny, on my tape his arms bounce off the floor lifelessly, just like his head (with closed eyes). Maybe Larry talks during his sleep though. You could know.

A month of training is enough to get your timing back if you've been fighting for the last 20 years of your life. Did it ever occur to you that looking good against a peak Tyson is a little harder than against Mercer and McCall?

You continue to irritate at the highest level. Where did you read Holmes had just four weeks to train? Er...let me guess The Mallard's book? Here's some info...try to let it sink in:

After Tyson-Tucker, Larry called out Tyson saying "He'd knock him out". That was August 2nd 1987. Already the fight was mooted for after the Biggs bout. A week or so before the fight with Biggs (early October 1987) a Tyson-Holmes fight was pencilled in for January 23rd 1988- on the proviso that Tyson flattened Biggs. Which he did of course. Now if Larry chose to train for just four weeks that's his problem, but in reality he had THREE months- two at the very least. Got that, Goldfish?

Agree here, personally i thought this fight was one of Tyson's greatest and the ease with which he dispatched a well past it but still durable and annoying Holmes was full of class, power and maturity. Holmes subsequent efforts make the performance look quite decent.

Did he punch or land a punch during all this dancing? Did he land a decent punch all fight? I can't believe some peeps are trying to portray this as a poor effort by Tyson.

So now Tyson's lucky the ropes grew a life of their own and grabbed Larry's incoming fight ending monster uppercut? Did Larry not have enough fights to know where the ropes reside? It mattered not.

My two-pennorth, for what it is worth ....

Tyson to start very aggressively and sweeps the first 3 rounds while Holmes looks ragged and troubled with the pressure.

Round 4 and onwards sees Holmes land the jab-right hand more frequently giving Tyson pause for thought.

By the mid-rounds, Holmes is starting to give a boxing masterclass, keeping the jab in the face of Tyson and landing 2-3 punches to every one by Tyson.

If the match is made using tabbed gloves, Holmes wins by a wide UD over 15. If Larry has the thumb to use, Tyson is TKO'd in 11 ;) :!:

wouldnt it be great if there was a reset button on fighters that would immediatly put them in there prime vs a person that is in his prime.these are kinda frustrating questions when we use these what ifs.yet i always find myself eagerly participating..i would like to say tyson by ko in 3,if larry doesnt expose himself to tysons right hand.see when larrys best weapon the jab was in use it became also his biggest weakness.leaving his left arm low a and chin vunerable to right hands of all flavors.ok it depends what kind of mindset larry has when coming into the fight.if he is ready for such a pressure guy such as tyson then larry will avoid being kod early and he can dictate the pace of the fight.therefore causing tyson to venture into rds hes never been before then i would say holmes by decision in 15.only if holmes can avoid tysons early haymakers and lets tyson tire himself out.

Good fight Tyson's head movement and handspeed v Holmes footspeed, excellent jab and strong defence. I favour Holmes to take this one in the later rounds. A peak Larry could run round Mike for 15 rounds tying him up any time he got close. There is no way that the peak Holmes stands in front of Tyson long enough to get tagged.

Does Tyson have any chance of winning, yes. If Holmes gets careless and stops moving then Mike has a good chance of bombing him out. Sadly for you Tyson fans that is the best your man can hope for. A peak Holmes took no risks against dangerous opponents. If you need an example of how this one would go, imagine a fast paced version of Lewis v Tua.
