Vitali in a battle of the jabs. I don't think Holmes had the head movement and quick feet to get inside and do damage.
Even though in a HTH matchup id take Vitali over Wlad. I think style wise Wlad would be a tougher fight for Holmes. Vitali is too Robotic for a sharp and quick heavy like Holmes, he also has the chin to withstand anything Vitali comes at him with. His jab would bust him up. However Wlad has more speed, boxing skills and combine that with his range could give Larry problems. Also even though Wlad has a less than average chin, Holmes wasnt a big bomber respectable puncher yes but its not like hed take wlad out with a big punch. Id still pick Larry over Wlad but hed have a tougher time.
Holmes actually has a 1" reach advantage on Vitali, and Vitali would have a tough time facing arguably the greatest jab of all time. Round after round with the jab in his face would eventually bust him up pretty bad. Larry had good defensive skills, his only achilles on defense was his succeptablity to the right hand and Vitali would be quick enough with it. Vitali would have his moments and wins some rounds but Holmes does more and outboxes him. HOlmes by late stoppage on cuts(especially over 15) or UD.
Holmes would be just too slick for Vitali. His jab would make a mess of Klitschko's face and I see him winning by a wide points margin.
Ver funny. Vitali can be cut, but hurt? In his prime, he was excellent at neutrliazing a seeming speed advantage of opponents. Nobody ever used speed or a jab effectively against Vitali. Lennox had the size and strenght to bang with Vitali, Holmes certainly would not be able to to that. Holmes also struggled with fighters that Vitali would dominate. I don't see Norton winning more than 2 - 3 rounds against Vitali.
Why is this thread still active? Holmes was infinitely better than either of they **** sacks. This is ****in unbelievable.
would be a cracking fight imo, holmes was a great fighter with a little bit of everything in his make up but vitali is trouble for any heavyweight imo. far too many people are quick to say it would be an easy win for holmes when the truth is that many fighters worse than vitali gave larry a tough 15 round fight. its hard to pick a winner imo, holmes got knocked down a number of times in his career whilst vitali has a cast iron chin and would last the distance. i could see holmes being in front after about 13 rounds before getting stopped by vitali.
Holmes was a brilliant fighter in his prime with one of the best jabs ever. I'd favour him over both of them.
