I think anyone who thinks that Hopkins will be lucky to win a round against Calzaghe is bordering on lunacy. If you think he might lose 8-4, i can see your point. But to say that he will be lucky to even win a round given his intelligence, the level of people he has fought, and his ability to control the tempo of a fight makes it a ridiculous statement.
And i did see the poll where someone asked, "Who many rounds will Hopkins win?" I saw a bunch of people vote 2 or less.
I think Hopkins will win 2 rounds at best. That is a prediction, not nuthugging. Lots of people have picked Calzaghe to win like that. Im not making Calzaghe out to be better than he is.
It all boils down to whether or not he is able to spoil the fight. If he can't, it certainly isn't lunacy to suggest he won't win a round. Calzaghe got a wide UD over a dirty, fit, young Bika. Based on recent fights, I'd say Bika is just as successful with spoiling tactics as Hopkins. The other tool of note in this fight will be Hopkins counterpunching, which isn't as useful when punches are coming in bunches. I think maybe he'll win 3 rounds max, but don't think it's lunacy to suggest a whitewash, at all. That doesn't mean a number of rounds won't be close...
What if I was to have told you that Jones will take 11 rounds off of Toney before their fight? or that Calzaghe would win every round against Lacy? or that Hopkins was going to dominate Tito in a brutal fashion. You would have called me dillusional then too, this is much more likley to happen than it was in any of those fights.
If you really predicted all those outcomes, you're pretty good. But i think a lot of people seem to CLAIM that they said such and such after the fact. It's very convenient.:good
No, he does not have massive speed advantages. Furthermore, any speed or workrate advantages would not be enough to overcome the stylistic disadvantages Calzaghe would have against Hopkins. On a side note, why do people on this board put so much stock in workrate? Workrate will only be a decernable advantage against simplistic and/or B level or lower fighters. Dynamic elites like prime Hopkins aren't bothered by workrate. As a matter of fact, high workrate would play right into his hands.
Prime?? Is this even a real question? Bhop Makes it a tatical fight that Joe ends up loosing by a good margin. We aren't talking about a Bhop that is 44 yrs old but a Bhop that is in his hayday.....so it's easy to say that Bhop wins by UD or KO if the two met in their best days.
Well Joe likes to beat up on nobodies which he's made his entire career out of. THere are 3 decent names but other than that there are a bunch of B to C level fighters. Bhop may have faught some guys south of his natural weight but they were ELITE level opposition. Something Joe still has yet to face. Kessler is the closest thing he has to Elite level Comp.
I didnt predict the Toney win because I was a bit young to do anything apart from watch the fight. I did pick a Hopkins win by a comfortable margin, not quite so comfortable though . and Calzaghe over Lacy every time, only people who didnt know who Calzaghe was were predicting a Lacy win.
You get a grip. Moving your hands real fast is not the same as having true fighting speed. Calzaghe is a fast fighter, but he makes himself look faster with those slapping arm punches. He wouldn't even get a chance to attempt that non sense against a prime Hopkins. So far, the only reason you have given for Calzaghe winning this fight is that he throws a lot of punches.
