You shouldn't have given up! Sounds like you had some fun. I understand it's hard to balance it out when you're working, though. OK, without wanting to take the thread too far off the rails, I'll tell you a little about my experience as a musician. I started on violin in the late 70's (I hated it and wanted a guitar). I got my first guitar in 1979, and studied drums since 1980 (my neighbour had a kit). I also played bass but didn't focus on it properly until a few years ago. Played in lots of bands, been taken under the wing of a very famous UK band who got us a deal with a major label, but eventually I walked out on the contract and had to drop it because certain lesser-experienced band members got involved with bad drugs and didn't know how to conduct themselves properly. The bull**** and politics wasn't worth the effort. In 1997 I got bored with guitar and wanted to learn something else. The art of scratching came naturally to me so I studied and practiced on turntables until about 2005. I never intended to do anything "serious" with it, but some claim I was one of the best scratch DJ's on the planet. I thought that was funny, but I didn't complain! My love of guitar was reignited a few years back. I don't play in bands anymore but I still occasionally make music. The last thing I did was done at home, recorded direct to my computer. It turned out OK, I think. If you want to hear that, click here: http://www.zshare.net/audio/5255626f1ddcb9/ Cheers! :good
Wow...isnt this ridiculous hobby of the Calzaghe fans of downplaying Hopkins resume getting old (even tho its one of the best in the sport...and please dont make me waste my time proving you all wrong)? I know many of you (not all, but many of you) actually know your ass from your elbow when it comes to boxing....so I know most of you dont even believe the crap your writing. And isnt a Calzaghe fan calling Hopkins resume bad like a lemon calling a banana sour? I mean, youve got to be kidding me. Johnson, Echols, Trinidad, DLH, Eastman, Joppy, Vanderpool, Tarver, Winky, and arguably (considering most think he won) Taylor...among others...as opposed to Kessler, Lacy, Eubank, Mitchell and Bika...among others. If anyone really thinks the second one is even in the same zip code as the first is a moron. Its not even close people. And this is coming from a HUGE Calzaghe fan (he is one of my favorite ALL TIME fighters....but lets be real for a second).
Trinidad was not 2 divisions above his ideal weight when Hopkins fought him. He would have been severely weight drained fighting at 147 at that point.
Ummm, he pretty much shut Eastman out. What is the point of that? (it actually did make me laugh tho...)
Your ****ing kidding me...right? atsch Do you even know how to score a fight? Even in that video, Eastman didnt land a thing...and the few Hopkins did land (which the video was cut to show him not throwing) he landed clean. Seriously, please tell me how you score a fight? I would love to know.
Beating Echols twice. Echols was similar to Miranda in a lot of ways. And nobody was calling Trinidad small after he violated Joppy like that.
The anti Hopkins people on this thread know they're talking out of their asses. I started the same exact thread about Calzaghe, and I guess someone took it the wrong way and started this thread.
I actually thought it was hilarious. But Hopkins schooled him...Eastman couldnt hit him all night. Hopkins didnt throw alot, but hit him easy.
You just posted a video of him against Eastman, who is about his size. Tarver is bigger than him, and despite what people say, Trinindad was about his size also.
What he is doing is the only thing people can do when disecting Hopkins resume. Tito - Had trouble making the lower weights for some time before moving to MW. Had DESTROYED almost every fighter he had faced up to that point...including the #3 MW in the world in William Joppy right before the Hopkins fight. DLH - Admittingly was blown up. Tho what was impressive in this fight was not Hopkins KOing a smaller man...but actually outboxing one of the more skilled boxers of this era. Winky - Was a career JMW...Hopkins was a career MW...they fought at LHW. Hop was naturally the bigger man by 6 pounds...this weight difference in this one is a joke. Yet even with this...they ignore Tarver (much bigger naturally), Taylor (arguably a win), Eastman, Joppy, Echols, Vanderpool, Holmes, Johnson...and maybe soon Calzaghe. Again, this myth about Hopkins beating smaller men is ridiculous. Hagler's best wins are Hearns (a WW fighting at MW), Leonard (arguably a win like Taylor...a WW fighting at MW) and Duran (a LW fighting at MW). Anyone care to play the fool and call Hagler's resume weak? Didnt think so... :-(
So now because he has long arms his wins arent as impressive? Tommy Hearns must SUCK in your eyes...his reach advantage was GIGANTIC in 99% of his fights.
But 155 is on the heavy side for a former 130 lb champ, going up against a guy who started at 175. Johnson was Bernard's best win. Arguably, Jones was his best performance.
