The more you think about this, the more you start to understand how Willard gets sold short these days.

Holyfield obviously isn’t going to stop him early like Dempsey, and he sure as hell isn’t going to outlast him.

Can he break Willard down over say 20 rounds where Johnson failed?

Possibly, but it is obviously going to be a pretty desperate affair for him.

 

Willard takes Holyfield in the 29th round, he outlasts the outlaster.

 

Prime Holyfied stops him far earlier than 20th round.

The man dropped Bowe, Tyson and Mercer with a left hook, do you beileve Willard had better chin than these iron-chinned HW's (who, by the way, are far better boxers than Willard)?

 

Holyfield would stop Willard within a modern limit round set...IMO 9-12 rounds.

 

Holyfield was a solid banger at heavyweight but nothing more .. a match up with the Willard of Havana for a long distance is not good for Evander .. no doubt he would pound on Willard early but Jess was iron and would not be going anywhere .. as far as 45 rounds, who knows?

if he decked the iron chinned bowe and stopped the iron chined tyson,no doubt he could have stopped willard,especially considering that 180 lbs dempsey stopped him

But he was better technically and bigger at HW (215 lbs of pure muscle).

Prime Holyfield stops any version of Willard. As would do Larry Holmes though he also doesn't hit like Jack D.

Jack Johnson who lost to Willard was way past his best, that's why he lost

 

hehe i think it is quite the opossite...holyfield floored some of the toughest boxers ever,like bowe,tyson,mercer...
also,holyfield was something like 210-220 lbs,dempsey was a big supermiddleweight at 180 lbs,makes no sense that he hits like holyfield who is few weight divisons bigger??!
