How would be prime Igor Vovchanchyn fare against the top fighters from today, in UFC ??

Igor had insane power, alright stand up skills (he was very wild, wide and crude sometimes in my opinion), and (slightly) underrated ground techniques, he wasn´t unskilled at the ground, had some defensive moves....

    What do you think?

    He would not do well.

His wrestling would not be good enough to remain competitive in the UFC, and the dude was 5'8" and 230lbs. Even at 205 most guys are 6'1" or above, let alone the monsters at HW.

Amazing fighter, incredibly exiting to watch, tough as hell, and had very decent hands and stand up skills in general, but times have changed somewhat since his day.

Prime Igor was one of the crazy tough guys who liked to **** people up. But I dont think he'd do very well against the top guys of today, he's simply undersized and not well rounded enough imo

Maybe more competitive with todays LHW's, but basically his skillset is a big right hand, kinda like Hendo without the wrestling.

Will always be at a disadvantage, but deserves respect and is one of my favourite fighters

Depends on the rules. Under PRIDE or Vale Tudo he'd annihilate most of the heavys in the UFC. Under the unified rules he'd still fair well as he was very underrated in the mat and was a great striker with very heavy hands. You ask me the Unified Rules and the UFC hinder MMA.

Seriously? How? Even with pride rules how would he annihilate the UFCs HWs?
He was amazingly undersized, even by 205 standards. How would he be running through guys who are half a foot taller than him and outweigh him by as much as 30lbs?

And there's no way his wrestling was good enough to keep it on the feet. His ground game was decent, yes, but he was nothing great. I'll always be a huge fan of his, he was ahead of his time, and the best fighter of his era, but he's really nothing special by todays standards.

Igor spent a fair chunk of his career at heavyweight. Remember Paul Varelans? That guy was 6ft 8 and 300lbs. Igor destroyed him despite being outweighed by close to 100lbs and that was under Vale Tudo rules. Likewise he did the same with Yvel Goodridge Mark Kerr and Inoue to name a few all when they were in their primes. All were significantly bigger than him. And he didn't just beat them he destroyed them. His win over Inoue is by far one of the most brutal fights in the history of the sport.
Back in the late 90's Igor was considered the best heavy on the planet. The manner of his victory's certainly backed up this claim.

PRIDE rules allowed for knee's to a downed opponent, stomps, soccer kicks all of which were part of Igor's arsenal who was a very aggressive kickboxer. Like i said under PRIDE or Vale Tudo rules find me ONE heavyweight in the UFC that would dominate with their wrestling. The rules didn't allow for it and neither does the openness of the ring. Under PRIDE or Vale Tudo rules absolutely i believe a prime Vovchancyn would destroy most of the heavys in the UFC.

I'm well aware of what he accomplished and how he accomplished it.
And there were (and still are) plenty of fat turds at 300lbs that Igor could destroy, but not the guys who are ~6'3", 240+, lean and have excellent wrestling, good subs and great stand up.

  10. Great standup? Igor has an excellent kickboxing record and went up against a legend of kickboxing in his first k1 fight and did and excellent job (although he lost).

He was good on the mat, great cardio, great chin, and can actually sub people too.

Looking at the UFC guys now, they are certainly slower and less nimble. Most like Carwin get tired after one round, people like Cain doesnt seem to have a submission game, and people like Brock has no standup and cant even take punches. Come back to me when youve done a proper analysis.

Excellent Wrestling? Great stand-up? Who exactly do you mean by this? I can't think of ONE heavyweight in the UFC that i would call an excellent wrestler. Certainly not of the Dan Severn, Mark Coleman, or Mark Kerr variety. Brock and Carwin most certainly do not fit that mould. Cain has somewhat of a shout but i would not go as far as calling him an excellent wrestler.

As for stand up well i don't think nothing else needs to be said here. There's currently not one heavyweight in the UFC who comes from a professional striking background. Im not going to bother counting CC as his career is done. And likewise Pat Barry's stay will also be ending soon.

You are the epitome of the JMMA geek lying in his basement surrounded by anime and PRIDE sperm posters and completely refusing to accept that it's no longer 2003 and that your PRIDE heroes weren't immortal gods to begin with.

Vovchanchyn was an aggressive, heavy-handed brawler with little inclination for the ground and a highlight reel with very little headbutting, stomping, soccer kicking, and ground kneeing (aside from GETTING kneed to death by Coleman), therefore Vale Tudo or PRIDE rules wouldn't help or hinder him. What would hinder him is the fact that he couldn't wrestle, had no guard, and was all of 5'8". Most any Top 10 heavy from this generation would **** him. It's irrefutable.:hi:

EDIT- And you're even more delusional and living in the past than I thought if you honestly believe that Velasquez isn't as good as Coleman, Kerr, and Severn. If anything he's better because he can actually pass guard in addition to being a takedown artist.

Obviously I was mistaken, and Vovchanchyn wouldn't get wrestle ****ed into oblivion. He would be able to out strike fast athletic guys who are half a foot taller than him. And he wouldn't get submitted by grappling champions.

Name a few guys with better striking at heavyweight then him. Or how about these apparent wrestlers that would out wrestle him. You seem to forget that Igor was considered the best heavy in the world after he beat Mark Kerr. He made a career of beating up men much bigger than himself as did Fedor.

Respond to my post if you're going to keep up this argument because mine is a bit more in-depth and more for you to rail against.

Velasquez and Dos Santos are both better than Igor who had trash footwork, trash punching mechanics, trash combination punching, and lethargic kicks. Vovchanchyn was as successful as he was due to the fact that he was fast, hit hard, and fought a shitload of bums who weren't worth the paper their contract was signed on.

A 5'8" HW that can't jab or throw any straight punch for that matter is in for a world of hurt against guys who are 6'3" and up, can box, and can completely **** him up on the mat where he was always weak.
