James J Corbett, he of the Sullivan beating, meeting the Mauler? Fighting in Dempsey s era, result and what round?
I think Jim will present some problems for Jack with his safety first style and speed, but I think Dempsey eventually gets to him like every other significant puncher Jim has faced.
Dempsey KO round 1, he goes to the body to set up the big right hand or left hook over the top, and Corbett with his chin in the air, it wouldn’t end well.
Maybe for a round or so but not much more. I can see Corbett going into Lou Bizzarro mode and skittering all around the ring for a while. But when the end came, it would be merciless.
I think Jim could present some issues early due to his excessive feinting and movement, I also see him abusing that clinch early, for better or worse. Corbett did have pretty underrated strength from what I’ve read, and I feel like his lack of durability seems slightly overblown since Fitz and Jeffries needed to break Corbett down over time later on. I see Jack getting him out around 8-12
