James Toney, It'd be a counterfest for Toney and end with a straight from Toney right to Andre's chin.
Toney wins if he's in shape. If he isn't then Ward nicks it from him. Bear in mind that Toney feasted on aggressive fighters, he had trouble with Boxers.
So many writing Ward off. Yeah Toney may well be the GOAT CPer throughout any division during any period (Holyfield, Marquez, Robinson are all right there with him), but Ward is a sneaky SOB, and timing him to counter him has proven almost impossible to do on a regular basis. I think Toney would nick some close rounds due to his power advantage, but he'd have to abandon his typical gameplan to keep it close, and Ward would rack up and early enough lead to carry him in the later rds to a decision win.:think RJJ OTOH would KHTFO. PERIOD.:yep
I'm sure it goes the distance, regardless of who wins. Toney at his absolute best would have to be favoured but we can't just forget how many times he phoned it in. If he fights like he did against Tiberi, Griffin etc then I've no doubt Ward would decision him. Ward always turns up in shape and is tremendously consistent, two things you could never say about Toney. Ward is also a very smart fighter - he wouldn't just walk onto counters all night or get dominated on the inside. I think he gives the best version of Lights Out a good fight.
Seriously what is a prime James Toney? Id take Ward by UD, performs on a far more consistant basis to what Toney ever managed and is versatile to switch it up if one gameplan isnt working.
I cannot see how Ward can win, if Toney is on top of his game and away from the buffet table he fan do everything Ward does only better and with power. I do not think Ward has peaked yet so he might get to the level of James but he ain't there yet. I do not think TOney KOs him because he has trouble with cute boxers sometimes
