Is that with or without Wards home judges? I mention that as its the difference between winning and losing against Ward, that said James Toney would of had the skill to catch Ward before he had the chance to do his limpet thing on Toney,James Toney had an awesome inside game as we've seen time again.
Not to sound like a broken record but it really does depend on whether or not the referee is going to let Ward get away with a lot of the stuff he gets away with at the minute. With a strict ref, it's Toney's to lose IMO. His inside game was phenomenal. The way he could fight from the waist was amazing. If he's getting wrestled around, elbowed and head butted though it becomes a very different fight.
For the life of me I can't understand why his fans wanna se that s***,what gives him the right to stink the joint out time after time?ive enjoyed watching Frampton this year, total joy to watch a guy who has a great boxing brain and can fight on the inside or out and more importantly never wrestles his way to wins. Maybe I'm missing something about the greatness of Ward but I'm sure he'd be more popular if used his undoubted boxing skills in the ring instead being such a "dog"in the ring as his coach puts it?
If he was European he'd be condemned as a cheat by many of the people currently praising him. I do think it's up to referees to take a stronger stance on those kind of tactics though. Fighters will also do whatever they can get away with. And his skills, impressive as they are weren't enough to compete with Kovalev. He got dumped on his backside when he tried to go down that route and then went back to what he does when things get tough. Get ugly, spoil and hope that wins over the judges.
Yeah couldn't agree more,Ward was beaten to the jab and was countered everytime they were both stood up,the commentators felt that Ward has lost a step over the years? The ref should absolutely put a stop to it if not for the paying fans who want to see a supposed puncher against a boxer, not puncher v a wrestler,if after a few rounds it's still going on he should warn Ward for holding and Kovalev for head lock-in Get?
"Lights Out" in his peak was way better than Kovalev. Any man Kovalev beats , Toney will do the exact same. Toney gets the victory in this one.
