Trinidad was the most obvious example. The 2nd Mosley fight. They both cost him. Hopkins fight didnt smell too good. Would you say DelaHoya was in there to win that night or survive? 135lbs would be a factor as well.
He let the last few rounds go against Trinidad because he believed he was way ahead - and he should have been. It only cost him because of inept judges. Most have him winning 8 rounds. Trinidad is a consensus top 5 ATG puncher at 147. The second Mosley fight is the same, many have him winning 8 rounds and the decision is controversial. As for Hopkins the guy was facing a fully fledged ATG middleweight. He was over his head. He certainly went out there to win when the fight started and lots of fights smell but unless you are in there who really knows? You are pulling late career fights from 147 and 160 trying to show that Oscar would quit at 135. Trinidad was 4 years after Oscar had left lightweight, Mosley II was about 8 years later and Hopkins was closer to 9 years later. Oscar was a helluva fighter at 135 with loads of power in that left hook. Chavez certainly isn't going to just beat down on him until he quits. Well, it's certainly not the likely outcome.
De La Hoya is the golden boy, of course people are gonna bet against him. It's like Leonard all over again.
Chavez would beat a greener version of ODLH at Super Featherweight/Lightweight. But a more matured ODLH wins at Jr Welterweight/Welterweight.
I think Oscar too sharp. He has the faster hands and feet. If he doesn't stop hum on cuts, he wins a decision. It would be a great fight at 140.
