    A) Botha had a sizzling right hand. Ask Mike Moorer how that jaw and his ribs were after their fight.

    B) Put Botha in against those tiny wharfbrawlers, coal miners and retirees that Jeffries faced and see how his power would look.

It's simple, folks. Elite in 1900 does not equal elite in 1995. Heavyweight champs don't go on barnstorming tours to find opponents. The color line is gone. Tiny heritage fighters don't repeatedly get title shots without proving themselves against current contenders. God Bless these pioneers. But let's be real.

Some of them continued to maintain it into the 1950s or later!

I would go as far as to say that Jeffries had the biggest aura of invincibility surrounding him, of any champion up to this day!

Now it is possible as you say, that this was because people hadn't seen anything like him before, but it is also possible that it is telling us something!

They might do well. Fitz KO'd a 300 pound fighter. Lewis was only about 245 pounds or so.

If those who saw him, and were hugely impressed, were still alive half a century later… they would of course still hold him in high regard. If there's one stable that can be learned from a forum like this, it is that almost everybody seems to prefer the fighters they watched as young men, when they first took an interest in boxing. First impressions and all that...

The Heritage Ed Dunkhorst mention has arrived. It's been awhile. I am somewhat nostalgic. Reminds me of the halcyon days of the board.

    I'm not crying. You're crying.

How would modern heavies do vs Jeffries in his time who has size, power, fast hands and the ability to go 25 rounds in the outdoor heat or stuffy areas with no AC? This current lot isn't very good.
