Didn't push himself, yet never lost and defeated everyone worth defeating in his division. Bernard did that? Oh wait, no. Jones Jr did that? Oh wait, no. Floyd Jr did that?, Oh wait, no. Excusing Sven Ottke who Calzaghe used to enjoy berating and telling him he'd fight him for a euro if he just stepped in the ring, Calzaghe fought every single fighter you could expect him to fight at SMW and took the big fights when they were there (Woodhall, Reid, Veit, Lacy, Kessler) and won each fight impressively. He beat the generation before him in Eubank, his own generation in guys like Woodhall, Sheika, Starie, Reid, etc and the generation after in Lacy, Kessler and Bika. He absolutely obliterated Roy Jones Jr in a way that no other fighter could at a time where Roy was still good enough to beat Top 10 talent. He beat Hopkins in a decision that should have been a UD and everyone goes and talks about how old Hopkins now is, this is on the back of some of Hopkins absolute best performances following the losses to Taylor and Hopkins is STILL Fighting #1 LHW contenders and in the view of many, beating them - he dominated Pavlik so embarrassingly after the Calzaghe fight yet people still want to talk about "Old Hopkins" without remembering, Calzaghe was fighting his 47th fight, he had passed the age of 36, he wasn't Young himself.
Nobody is saying Calzghe wasnt a good fighter..That much I'll give you, but dont act like his resume is ranking up there with the past ATG...He's a good fighter that didnt live up to his potential...Some of he title defenses was very questionable...Thats something that Calzghe's fans cant dispute.
