I think Louis would win on counter punching. He has quick hands and good timing, that would be the difference.

I love Rocky Marciano, who I saw destroy Carmine Vingo in 1949. Also saw all of Rocky's
later great TV bouts. Strong ,anf a pulverizing hitter with great Armstrong like stamina..
That being said, the prime joe Louis of Max baer and Schmeling 2, would have kod
Marciano in a couple of rounds. No fighter who ever lived could take the flurries of Joe Louis and survive. Yes Rocky could take a punch, but not any better than a bigger Max Baer, who had a cast-iron jaw. Baer took a volley of Louis's trip hammer blows and still
remained on his feet, until Baer had to call it quits. Max Baer was seldom outgunned,
but was outboxed at his best. Louis ,with his left jab keeps Rocky at bay until Joe opens up on Marciano, and finito to brave Rocky Marciano.

With his combination punching and reflexes intact he kills rocky. Knocks him cold.

Man....these guys are among my top 3 favorite boxers of all time. I believe this could go either way...each man has the tools to put the other away. It just comes down to who gets to implement their powers first. Whether it be the Rock getting inside and unleashing hell or Louis cutting and comboing him up before he gets the chance. I'd say Louis would win 6 out of 10 fights with Rocky...but hey who knows?

kills is a strong word my friend. Rocky doesn't get killed by anybody. Louis would know he was in for a rough fight.

Loui, was not half himself when he fought R. Marciano. Louis, was declining when he came back from World War 2. Louis still managed to bust R. Marciano up with his jab alone. Louis in his prime was much quicker and defense was much better and he had more punches in his arsenal. Louis Ko 5!

Strong words maybe, but I still think Louis puts him down for the count and some healthy change after hitting the deck himself once or twice.

Prime LHW charles/moore also tap that ass.

I'm saying that fresher versions of both guys beat rocky. Charles in a condition resembling anything like what we saw of him in that Marshall clip, Moore from the 40's-early 50's. Look at how even legless versions of both were able to score knockdowns or keep him at bay with punching. Really only one outcome if their speed, reflexes and dexterity are all intact, IMO.

I say this would be one of the greatest and most exciting matchups in heavyweight history.

I just think in the later rounds louis' sharp combinations beats rocky's crude blows. I'm not convinced he'd knock rocky out, but he'd certainly outgun him down the stretch.

Honestly, I'd give most pressure fighters a huge chance against Joe Louis. I think Frazier and Tyson would beat him for the same reasons Rocky would. If Louis throws a jab and misses, they'll be on the inside banging him in the ribs with hook counters and uppercuts. I'd give David Tua a chance against Joe Louis, too. I don't think he could stand up to Tua's power and survive. I think it's a styles thing, really. Joe himself said he hated to be crowded and hinted several times that Rocky would have licked him in his prime anyway.

If my life was riding on either guy winning I couldn't stand to watch ....

Pretty close to 50/50, as I see it.

This talk of tua beating box atg makes me sick. By the way people talk you'd think he was an atg himself, not a fringe contender.

I think Joe had it in him to beat Marciano.

I'd even make him the favourite.

But h'd have to do some ad******g. If he comes straight forward and relies on his usual gameplan, he's probably getting KO'd.

But assuming he was familiar with Rocky, and in his prime, where his body could follw his brain's instructions, I think he had more skill and would probably manage a hard-fought decision.

    Not certain though.
