Ali vs Usyk is discussed a lot but what about the Brown Bomber vs Usyk? I'm guessing most people will say Usyk dances around for a UD.
Seriously I would be interested to see how people compare them P4P now we are on this Uysk high lately.
Joe Louis was a special fighter but I feel boxing has evolved hugely since then and Usyk's movement would be too much.
Boxing has not evolved and will never evolve beyond two men trying to beat the s**t out of each other. The simplicity of that is its appeal.
I mean Joe Louis's performance in the rematch against Schmeling backs your point up where he aggressively closed the distance and went in for the KO. After being outboxed in the first fight.
Usyk would school him, he’s bigger, a better boxer and most likely stronger. Usyk would be feinting with the hands and feet, jabbing and changing the speed of the jab, varying his subtle movements which would make him very difficult to read, and Louis would be stood still, stalking Usyk and Usyk would read Louis easily because of it, and the fact Louis isn’t able to time Usyk’s rhythm would mean he just ends up throwing blindly, which means Usyk would be able to see his attacks coming even easier and would able to avoid, counter, beat him to the punch etc.
After that I guess he will divide the fishes and feed the multitudes, and walk on water for his closing act.
I don't pick anybody against a good southpaw until I see them fight one effectively. I've seen too many fighters who are so used to fighting other right handed fighters try to parry a jab from a southpaw with their right hand out of habit and take a huge left. I assume that these fantasy fights are Joe Louis exactly as he was against Usyk exactly as he is. In that case, Usyk has a huge advantage, where does JL even find a good southpaw sparring partner in his time?
Usyk would be controlling the fight throughout but I don’t think he can go through the fight without getting tagged hard nor do I see him surviving once he gets tagged hard. Louis would be the greatest (and most accurate/precise) finisher and fastest handed puncher Usyk’s fought by a country mile, Usyk’s high workrate will also work against him here as that gives him more opportunities to get hit.
I wasn’t acting like Bettina was a standout contender that Louis ducked, after he sparred Bettina he ruled out fighting southpaws altogether. That in itself has to be a form of ducking.
