Marciano would be a problem for Louis no matter when they fought. Both would be right in front of each other and in a shootout, I trust the Rock's chin over Joe's.
To beat Rocky you have to move, tie him up, give him angles and try and outbox him. You don't get into confrontations or you're in trouble.
Yes, he would get hit, but he wouldn't cave in. Joe I'm not as confident about. Louis could punch yes, but so could Rocky.
    Marciano by KO.

    In that clip?
    But what about other places?
What if he said that before or after, and why you are so much trying to discredit what Louis said just because you don't like it?
I could try discredit Ali saying Shavers is the hardest puncher or saying Patterson is the hardest just because I don't like it, but I wont.

Joe also said he'd never have beat Dempsey ... can we be real ? Some of these statements people post seem childish ... comparing performances from completely different age related stages in careers or going on what a fighter said in good natured spirit as sincere ....

Did anyone here ever see photos of Rocky's face after the Louis fight ? The cuts and bruises ? That was from a 37 year old with no legs, limited strength and stamina, a shell of the old power ... essentially 60% of his old jab ... and that said a very strong argument can be made that this same Louis was as good or close to as good as anyone Rocky ever fought .. certainly in his top handful of opponents .... My point is it is certainly interesting to see how underrated Joe Louis has become by many on this site ... wonder what Cobra would rate Rocky's defense at ? ;)

Since when has Joe Louis been known to get into shootouts?
Have you ever seen a Joe Louis fight?

Many times. He was a straight in shuffler. Hence his nickname "Shufflin' Joe". That's why he always getting knocked on his arse by little fat guys with pot bellies. He did not dance around the ring. Have you ever seen him fight?

As I’ve said earlier, Ali dancing has permanently distorted some fans’ perspective on what constitutes great footwork.

Ali really did a number on the generations that preceded him lol, he painted them as slow and less refined and since he was so culturally renowned for his time it kind of became a legitimized take.

Less refined would be an odd claim for a fighter who relied so much on natural talent in the first half of his career.

Why are people pretending like Joe Louis would dance away if Rocky got him in trouble? And strength itself doesn't even deteriorate that much as you're hitting your late 30s. In fact, strength is the one thing that is retained the most. All these people are saying Louis was a living corpse and that at 37 he only had 60% of his power. That's hilarious.

It takes one glance to realize the 37 year old Louis is nowhere close to his prime or even past prime self.
He wasn't completely shot in the Marciano fight but his reflexes, precision and explosiveness were gone.
He couldn't generate power at close range, he could hardly back away like he used to and was too slow to react to Marciano's openings.
Louis from the Walcott fight and before butchers him.
There simply isn't one advantage Marciano holds over the pre retirement versions of Louis.

Had Louis beat Rocky and fought Walcott in 1952, who you got?

I’m picking Marciano just later stoppage. Remember people go on about Louis not being prime. Marciano wasn’t either. He hadn’t perfected his defense or offense yet. His left hand wasn’t peak nor his crouching defense and counter ability. Fights r all about who can control pace and distance. Louis was unable to do so against Marciano at all
