Sullivan in his absolute prime versus George Foreman, 1991 version. Under the Queensberry rules of Sullivan's era. What would happen ?
Old school rules would suit Foreman to a Tee. Even an old Foreman, he wouldnt have to go far to find Sullivan.
old foreman with such an advantage in terms of reach, size and jabbing ability. Almost impossible for sullivan here over a short distance. maybe he'd outlast him over 20 or more rounds however.
An old Foreman still carried most of his early power, of course his delivery system of those weapons werent the same as they were when he was 25. Sullivan was strong, tough, and powerful and this would make for a classic if you ask me. I'll take an in shape old George to tko John l. in 10-12 rounds.
Sullivan's punch resistance at his best was superb. Being the recipient of a one sided beating after a career like Sullivan means only that you are human.
I take John L, by ko in round 17. Perhaps earlier. Sullivan has the punch to knock Foreman out, but I think it happens later.
Sullivan was about 200 pounds, and 5'10 or 5'11. His weight varied a lot, I would guess anything over 205 he's probably out of shape.
My guess is that Sullivan would have masacred old Foreman. We don't know exactly how good Sullivan was, but it is fair to say that his power and handspeed were up with perty much any heavyweight champion. He was a finisher exstroardinaire. My predictions do not carry the level of surety of a prediction about how Foreman would fare aginst a 1930s fighter. Finaly, I would suggest that it is not in any way a given, the even a prime George Foreman would have stood up to Sullivan.
