Unwatchable style, controversial decisions and justified prejudices notwithstanding, how would a prime John Ruiz do in today's heavyweight division? I think he would do pretty good, possibly beating Klitschko in one of the most stylistically unpleasant matchup/hugfests of all time.
Depends on whether King's got the refs and judges in the tank, like he did when Ruiz was cheating his way to titles back in the day.
HAHAHAHA! What's a Prime John Ruiz look like? What about the "New" Ruiz that went right back to the "Old" Ruiz in his last fight? Klitschko would destroy him, but not before a record number of clinches in a great hugfest.
Im glad you posted that so that the world can finally see what a cheating scumbag that Tua was. Ruiz was handily beating Tua, and any other ref in the world would have disqualified Tua.
Not the new Ruiz that tries and fails to keep reinventing himself. Prime time in the late 90's with the unremitting clinches, questionable decisions and a seemingly inexhaustible supply of luck (well, maybe the luck of around 2001). Aside from the run out luck, he had a little more snap on his punches and a little more speed back then -- not much, but it was there. I think that a prime time Ruiz (Don King + relentless hugging) would be able to decision VK, no problem.
how can anyone even tell if he's slipped? is he hugging less? in all seriousness, he just lost a tough decision to chagaev in late 06 and just beat mccline and he's what 35? he hasn't taken much damage thanks to his style. he's probably still almost "prime" whatever that means for ruiz. obviously he could beat chagaev possibly, but sultan's style might favor him. peter would probably club him out in an ugly fight and he has no shot at wlad.
you always post this in any ruiz thread, yet never explain why king would want ruiz to beat golota, a far more popular fighter who he could have made a huge attraction as a champion. back on topic, ruiz is still in the mix, as a older version, a younger version probably does very well.
Ruiz would probably manage to wrestle in close fights versus Ibragimov and a Chagaev rematch...though IMO Peter and Klitschko would beat his ass.
