The lineal title isn't always that prestigious. Larry Holmes won the lineal HW championship by beating up old, Parkinson's-riddled Ali. Just last year, Stevenson won the lineal LHW championship by KOing Dawson, who was coming off a loss to Ward.

Remember that the lineal champion is not necessarily the best fighter in the division.

    At SMW, yeah.

    :good

He also legitimately won the WBA belt from Ruiz.

    Exactly.

    It's all due to circumstances.

    Stupid censoring...

You can't say anything on this site anymore.. What happened to ESB? I guess it is more important that we can't use potentially offensive language why trolls run rampant.

An old wise man once said, without roids, Jones would have campaigned at 147, but only at contender level.:rofl

    It can't can it?

If any other 34 year old LHW had dominated Ruiz, it probably would have been classed as a great win.

But because it was Roy, many people claim that the win was worthless, because Lewis was the main man.

Some people won't give him credit for anything.

While I realize Roy, and many of the other greats of the last 40 years have used some sort of performance enhancing drug at some point in their career, I am not stupid enough to think they were the difference in the fighters dominating or getting dominated, or the difference of being a great fighter and a scrub.... Anyone suggesting that is either trolling or just being a hater. Or both.

    Yeah!

But it was boring to a lot of people, because Roy was so dominant.

Beating Ruiz in that fashion under the circumstances was an amazing thing IMO.. Roy was 34, and going for his 4th weight division world title at HW.

It often gets shrugged off because people hate Ruiz even more than they do Roy... But Ruiz was not horrible, and could make anyone look bad in a fight..No, Jay Nady was not going to let Ruiz cheat, but I think the way Roy stunned Ruiz with his speed and power is what really payed the bill in Ruiz hesitating and letting Roy pot shot... I will never forget Ruiz' trainer hitting him in the chest in the corner as to why he was not going after Roy.

Had Roy not fought Ruiz, the haters would say Roy was a afraid to being hugged to death.. Nothing would have pleased some people.. If he had somehow by miracle fought and beat Lennox Lewis, you would even have people saying Roy waited for Vitali to ruin Lennox.. It would go on and on, no matter what had happened.

But what did actually happen is still impressive, to someone that can step out of their hate and look at it level headed.

I know Clinton Woods is nowhere near as good as GGG, Froch or Kovalev and doesn't hit as hard... But he has an iron chin and is as tough as nails, even he was hesitant to apply his game plan to beat Roy because of Roy's power and speed.

We have to realize GGG, Froch and Kovalev have never been tested with that speed and power and punches from all angles like Roy can throw.. Who knows if they might have frozen up too?
