Just watching African Joshua Clottey last night get outpunched over 12 rounds by Manny Pac but stayed tough throughout.

Got me thinking - just reminded me of another durable hard as nails African Welterweight Ike Quartey.

Who do you reckon was the best Prime for Prime ?

Quartey - he was a much more versatile/complete fighter than Clottey.

Don't you dare compare Ike to the grandmaster of excuses, Ike actually fought to win.

Quartey by miles. No comparison, he actually had the skills to be dead level with the elite or even edge them over the course of a fight. Clottey is just over-rated now.

Ike of course. His jab was a show stopper all by itself. Clottey too often tucks up to survive, Ike wasn't as bad. When Ike was hurt, he could keep slugging.

Simply a more advanced version of Clottey.

Ike Quartey destroyed Vince Philips in 3 rounds.

The same Vince Philips who beat kostya tszyu and went 11 round with Ricky Hatton

    He was some banger

    Philips said

"I hit him in the first round and he smiled - I hit him in the 2nd round and he laughed - in the 3rd round he knocked me out"

head to head i would go with ike. better jab had more workrate...and he wasnt a thrower.

clottey is serving ghanian/african boxing pretty well. people might judge him on last fight but he wasnt just surving he was busting pacman up. more than the last 5 fights he had. it's his workrate that has stopped him get to another level. but it's also that style that has got him the shot in the first place so i dont think of it as a negative. he bulldozerd over judah, corrales, even cotto to an extent. but he is not being denied which is the main point.

but come on ike was better in all departments. and when he fought a true p4p numero uno he knocked him down and shoulda/coulda got the decision
