Prime Kelly Pavlik vs Sugar Ray Robinson at MW. A case can be made.

This is not as big of a mismatch as first seen. It is taking place at MW
and Pavlik is the much bigger fighter. Here is a anaysis and break down of key points to this fight.

    Jab wars:
Prime Kelly Pavlik was very underrated in taking away his opponents jabs
Slight head movements, parries followed up with his own hard right.
He usually troubles the shorter fighter and neutralizes their jabs quite well.
This is big against the smaller Robinson. If you watch the Fullmer fight,
Fullmer had a good strategy that Pavlik could have employed to even better
effect.People think of Fullmer as a brawling caveman, but Fullmer used his jab
and kept Robinson off balance for long stretches at the same time taking away Robinson's own.

What Pavlik will do is he will jab jab and than rush in with combinations.
Hard right, combo, hard jab, combo. The bigger Pavlik can easily do what Fulmer did except with more devasting results. Robinson's jab was lethal at WW, but not nearly as deadly at Middleweight. I honestly see Pavlik winning the jab battle and wearing Robinson down with his rights and combinations to the body.

Styles of Robinson: Counter punching from the back foot. Circling and movement:

Back Foot Counter Punching. What can Pavlik do?
As we seen from the La Motta fights, Robinson is a master of the back foot counter punches. The key point here is for Kelly not to get too cautious. He got a granite chin and should be able to absorb anything Robinson throw his way. He can not get too cautious and must fight in a steady but aggressive manner.

Robinson loved to circle to the left to land that left hook and most of Robinson's movements will be about getting the angle.I don't think Pavlik will panic when Robinson is doing this, because Kelly will most likely not know what is happening. Kelly will simply stand his ground and take 3-4 to land one. The Joe Frazier way.

    Size

In Kelly, Ray would encounter a brutal combination of POWER and Size. Things change when you fight a 6'3 MW who will come into fights at 175. All of a sudden your getting hit with shots your not use to, counters that catch you that you did not expect, impacting the volume of punches you throw.

I expect a great fight. Fight of the century but the final conclusion I can almost see it in living colors.

    Round 12
Robinson leading on the cards 6-5, but his legs finally goes out and he gets hit with an accurate left hook with plenty of time remaining in the round. He covers up but Pavlik hits him with huge right hands, again and again, followed by another and yet another. Jab to the body, left hook upstairs, right cross, left uppercut, body, head Robinson is tough, but Pavlik's brutal power shines through.
Robinson signals to his corner that he wants to fight on, but Pavlik ends it with a murderous over hand right that put Robinson down for the count.

    Pavlik Ko12.

(I know Sugar Ray Robinson is the GOAT, but this is a h2h matchup)

Robinson would school and stop Pavlik, I think. He's far too predictable and basic to beat the greatest fighter of all time.

Kelly might be to big and good in his prime for Robinson. I watched him fight Maxium and he maybe struggled a bit with bigger men then himself by the looks of it.

From what I have seen of Robinson his style might not do well against bigger stronger fighters then himself. Kelly would have close to 20 pounds on Robinson come fight night. Looked like he traded shots quite often from what I have seen of him and he did not look that elusive to me.

Sugar Ray would destroy Pavlik. **** man...

Sugar Ray wasnt just a counter puncher, he wasnt just a decent MW that a big MW can knock out in the 12th. This is a guy that states a case of being the best WW and MW of all time. He didnt reach such accolades without amazing skill, which FAR surpasses Kelly Pavliks set of skills. Pavlik will be a sitting target to Sugar Rays punches, and will struggle with the handspeed and movement of Robinson and will also find it extremely hard to land on Robinson despite being alot bigger.

Just when you think you've heard it all on the general forum. I've heard that David Haye would beat a prime Tyson, that Khan would beat JC Chavez, and now......... that Kelly Pavlik would beat SRR.

    Unbelievable.

Robinson would have wiped his ass with that slow alchy.

I also think Robinson has more power than Taylor and would have knocked Pavlik out probably in one punch.

Prime SRR was far too well-schooled for a basic slugger like Pavlik to even lay gloves on.

Any fight with Robinson is on his terms. Same day weigh-ins for any and all challengers, so throw that 24-hour rehydration/size advantage **** out the ****ing window and come get that drained ass stopped. :deal

ya I was just making random **** up in h2h.

I just went to classics and read up on 'ATGS vs Robinson' and replaced Hearns/Hagler.Roy Jones names with Pavlik.

Robinson will beat Pavlik to death..
