Interesting matchup, Pavlik would have to be considered the favourite as he is the more proven at 160lbs. That jab for Pavlik would clearly be key, GGG's sometimes lax attitude towards taking what he feels as nothing punches would see Pavlik rack up a fair few early rounds. Golovkin would be likely being trying to get close but would be taking a fair amount of punishment to do so. Id favour Pavlik by late stoppage or 10-2, 9-3 kind of decision.
Rule number one in most sports is that you dance with what bought you. The body work leaves him exposed too. He has to dip because oh his height, when he'd be much better served jabbing to the body and pivoting out. He needs to FEINT too. Not try to turn into Sugar Ray Pavlik.
Golovkin vs Pirog would answer a lot of questions regarding GGG's true level, Proksa is a solid win, a victory over the Russian would be fantastic.
As slick as "white chocolate" can be, he still has a tendency to get hit a bit too much. Would still be an entertaining scrap and would test GG's ring smarts much more than last weeks bout.
Now we cool and all, but if my key board farts out cause you just made me spit Pepsi all in it, I'm sendin' you the bill! :rofl Agree 100%. I don't understand what I've seen from him, but keeping in mind that was the criticism he heard all the damn time (nothing but a 1-2 fighter), he may have been trying to show he doesn't have to use a 1-2 to win?? Cause other than that, I don't get it :?
You don't necessarily need lateral movement to beat Pavlik. Golovkin hits very hard and unlike Miranda, wouldn't be deterred by what is coming back at him. It's entirely possible that Golovkin could be the one to push Pavlik back and dictate the pace of the fight.
Good call, but I saw HatesRats (I think it was) said GGG should take the ol' Rubio Litmus test to see where he's really at....and I agree. :yep
Pavlik got tagged a ton by Zertuche and a number of others even in his prime. Golovkin is the more skilled operator of the two, has more one-punch power, and has an advantage in speed and timing. Pavlik's size and one-two would be troublesome, but I'd favor Golovkin.
:deal (not really...just my opinion) I'd favor a young Pavlik over Martinez and every other current middleweight, though.
I hope not, Taylor is past prime and I don't want to see him used to hype and up and coming boxer up.
