Its almost laughable to suggest that just pressure is a guaranteed formula to defeat Tszyu. Kostya was in with some brillant pressure fighters from early in career (guys like H Lopez, Bramble ) middle (rueles, Gonzalez) to the end (Tackie).
Hatton smothered the **** out him, bending the rules on several occasions against an ageing Tszyu.
Phillips was getting clearly beaten until Tszyu ran out of gas and only then did he put the beatdown on him. Tszyu learnt from that fight.

But I wont disagree that Miguel brings more than just pressure, he is a fighting with mad skills and underrated hand speed. So in this respect that kind of pressure may bring results because Cotto is a truly classy fighter and may well be a HOF one day, I predict he will.

Probably he beats Cotto at 140, only cause we never really saw the best of Miguel at 140. He was still learning and making mistakes that Kostya would have caught him on.

 

This fight is a toss up. But I wouldn't favor Kosta Tszyu so easily. Cotto's timing and speed at 140lbs was a thing of beauty but his chin was weak there. IMO if Cotto doesn't get KO'd he wins himself by KO or decision. I don't see Kosta out boxing Cotto at all and to me he'd have to KO Cotto to win.

 

Kostya Tszyu had boxing skills too ... he wasn't just a power puncher, he could box and counter as well ... he was also deceptively fast.

As far as Cotto ... he wouldve never been able to last ... Tszyu's experience and skill wouldve been too much for Miguel.

It wouldve been a boxing match until Tszyu pulled the trigger and got him out of there.

 

I understand, But Cotto is more of a 2 handed puncher than Kosta was. I just think he is the better overall puncher than Tszyu although KT was sinister with his right hand. It is a toss up honestly. And I don't think its fair to take it as the 140lb version of Cotto because he was a young gun then and a little green. What I am thinking of is the beast that showed up against Gomez Judah and Mosley, that Cotto would give Kosta hell.

 

Tszyu's left hook and body hook were underrated weapons. Ask Sharmba or Hurtado.

Cotto may be better at 147 than KT, I'm not sure - But at 140 KT wins inside the distance in a barn burner. Whilst I don't think Cotto's chin could back up what his heart would put him on the line for.

The man has it. We have not seen the best of Cotto yet I believe, certainly we didn't at 140 when he was developing, and drained from losing weight. hatton beating Kostya is irrelevent as he was old.

So the best Cotto at 147 vs the best Tszyo at 140, the larger man wins. Both fighters are true pros with class.

 

I pretty much completely agree.

Kostya preffered mid range opponents but was never overly troubled with a swarming styled fighter, other than Hatton, when other factors also were at play.
I've always said Kostya had underated boxing skills that could match the best of them including Cotto and, to be honest, I think at 140 Cotto finds it tough eating Tszyu's accurate power barrage for 12 rounds. Different story at 147.

 

A prime Kostya Tyszu at 140 KO's the best version of Cotto at 140. KT was deceptively quick, had pretty good boxing skills, and his right hand was like a "Tomahawk" missle! If Corley could hurt Cotto bad, KT would annihilate Cotto's chin with a well placed right hand. He was also physically strong, so Cotto wouldn't be able to bully him around. However, KT could get overconfident and walk into something big from Cotto. Still, I would go with 70% KT winning and 30% Cotto winning.

At 147 Cotto definitely looks better although I personally never saw KT at 147 so couldn't say how he would fare against Cotto.

 

Cotto wins this one Kstya was a good fighter but nothing special, a very overated resume a think Cotto have a better resume than Kstya right now and Cotto is still fighting, so we might see Cotto rank all time better than Kztya if he continues to win. Cotto by late ko at 147 at 140 a toss up but only because Cotto being weak. I don't think this fight end up in decision, both fighters can be koed by the power that they posses.

 

At 140 Cotto was drained so Zoo would win
At 147 Cotto would be too much and stop Zoo late.

 

At 140 Cotto had serious problems with his weight so he was very vulnerable, was stunned several times inlc. Abdullaev, Corley, was KD vs. Torres, so a good shot could've finished him off.

Kostya Tszyu is maybe a bit underrated over the boxing world since he wasn't American, maybe, maybe not, I don't really care, but let me tell you: he was a FANTASTIC and a very very strong fighter in his prime and I have to go with Kostya at 140 by TKO (easy pick). Also I'd pick Hatton vs. Cotto at 140 (you can argue with that pick) but only because Cotto was weakened by weight-drain and Hatton is very good at 140, never had any trouble at 140 (the Collazo fight was at 147 as well). Cotto was in some very tough situations vs. lower level fighters than Hatton (who's an A- level fighter) and Tszyu (who's an A+++ level fighter).

At 147, it's all Cotto vs. Tszyu, Hatton and I'm heading toward to pick Cotto over Mayweather. But not at 140...

 

Cotto's chin wasn't nearly good enough at 140lbs to last 7 rounds with Tszyu. it could be a fairly close fight, but it'd be over as soon as Tszyu lands a couple of big right hands.

At 147lbs, Cotto actually has a chin. He probably wears Tszyu down to outpoint him. in a close fight.

 

I want you to watch Cotto v Gomez again ... then tell me if you honestly think that Cotto is a two fisted puncher. :good
