Your prime holmes fought competitive fights, close fights and wars with guys like trevor berbick, tim whiterspoon orold ken Norton . holyfield was better than all these guys and more balanced
That's true but at the same time Holy had unexpectedly hard fights with the likes of a past it Dokes Bean a blown up Bobby Cyze and if I'm not mistaken Stewart? Look man all great fighters have bad nights we all know that. I'm not denying both are great fighters. From a style perspective I just can't see prime 4 prime Holy beating Holmes. It always comes back to the jab jab jab. As Bowe also showed Holy could be nailed with that rt uppercut which Holmes had. So look if you want to resort to that name calling BS that's on you man. This is my opinion that's all it is I'm not telling you to agree with it. Your entitled to your own which you expressed I just disagree simple as that man
Holmes UD. Holy would get out jabbed, and didn't have the firepower to win down on points via stoppage. One thing about Holmes, his conditioning was excellent. He did not rest on the ropes or take rounds off in his prime. And he was nobody's fool who knew what his opponent did best. Holy tended to take breaks and sometimes gas ( not likely winning those rounds when he does), meaning his margin of error in winning the majority of the rounds would be thin. In 12 rounds I'd go 7-4-1 for Holmes In 15 rounds I'd go 9-6 or 9-5-1 for Holmes.
Why would I need to read your opinion to have my own opinion about this matchup? There is more than one way to skin a cat and prime Holmes was a better fighter than the one who faced Holyfiled. He would use the attributes he had in his prime to come home with a UD. I put forth my reasoning in my second post which you did not quote. Maybe you didn't read it.
Fighters don't always use their attributes to the best of their ability, especially when young. I fancy Holmes but you can't really go off what happened in their fight as Holmes never fought that cautiously and defensive in his prime.
Holmes......had he been 10, 12 years younger and still had that hand speed and foot speed, he'd have taken that fight
That's true, too. A prime Holmes struggled more against Weaver in victory than a 42 year old Holmes did vs a prime Holyfield, IMO. And prime Holyfield >>> any version of Mike Weaver.
Holmes fought a very different fight than he would have in his prime. He didn't open up and let his hands go at 42 years old because he was respectful of Holyfield being the younger, stronger lion. That works both ways, Evander didn't have as many openings and he also didn't have to deal with a quicker more offensive Holmes. Hard to say I might lean towards Holmes but not with any degree of certainty.
Holyfield also brought good speed and the coordination of a smaller fighter. In his prime the Real Deal could rip off some blazing combinations body and head. I think this is nip and tuck fight which would probably be a series of fights.
Except when he doesn`t. Holyfield would break through and score plenty. There would some blazing exchanges. Both boxers have good speed and mobility. Holmes jab was terrific but also let lesser guys than Evander get to him.
