I think what he means are tall, rangy guys who make use of lateral movement and use of the jab in a way similar to Holmes. It would be like comparing Chuvalo to Marciano in a Marciano vs Ali thread.

Sure they had their differences but both were come forward pressure fighters. Obviously guys like Biggs and Tucker weren't a prime Holmes but they had similar styles

I'd question what did Buster Douglas do that 1988 Holmes couldn't possibly have managed?

Tucker was definitely better than Douglas, having stopped an in-shape version of him.

A younger Holmes ofcourse would be faster and sharper. With that said he would also take more chances and leave himself open all the same. I don't like Larry`s style against Tyson. I think Mike Tyson knocks him out in the 8th

Cus gave Tyson the blueprint for Holmes.

It's been said many moons ago, that the man on the silver mountain warned Mike Tyson to beware of great old fighters having one last chance at greatness. Tyson always thought it would be Holmes with one last hurrah. Turns out it would be Holyfield instead, but I digress.

Tyson dreamt of beating Holmes since his inception. Tyson always beats Holmes. He's only one of a handful of men picked to topple Larry Legendary.

You talk as though just because Cus taught him to do something that it was a done deal, the facts are Holmes was over the hill when he fought Tyson.

You know at the age Holmes lost to Tyson your hero was losing to the Irish Pie Eating Champion Kevin McBride, it's all about levels and perspective treacle........

not as much as wearing him down. But it might, which is why I gave him an extra 4 rounds.

Holmes got caught in almost all his signature fights and went tit for tat aka his ego got in the way, his chin, superior conditioning and skill gave him a way out, however similar to their real fight, eventually Holmes would start to fight fire with fire and that will lead to his KO loss, Tyson's right hand is going to do him in.

I believe even the Holmes of the Mercer fight would've outpointed Tyson. By then he'd shaken off the ring rust, was no longer in denial of his aging, therefor allowing himself to adjust his style.

    This is a horrible post

Prime Tyson was much better than '92 Mercer. Better defensively, faster, more agressive. LOL at thinking "ring rust" was the reason Tyson anilliahated Holmes. '92 Holmes wouldn't have the legs to keep Tyson off of him. Even prime Holmes would be vulnerable.

It is debatable whether prime for prime Tyson would win. But 92 Holmes v. Prime Tyson? Tyson KO by mid-rounds just like their actual fight.

Let's start this one out and say I'm a big Larry Holmes fan. Mike Tyson, Larry Holmes, Jack Dempsey, Riddi Bowe, Sonny Liston, Joe Louis and Michael Dokes are my favorite heavyweights of all time.

Larry Holmes is the biggest egomaniac in boxing history, in my opinion. There's no way in hell he would enter a fight unprepared, especially the level of magnitude a Mike Tyson fight represented in 1988.

Holmes was a 20 title defense, 7 year on top, undefeated world champion who knew what it took to get in shape for a momentous fight. Why would he go into such a battle out of shape or even just for the money? He wanted to make history and to prove he was the greatest heavyweight of all time.

A 4 years older, fatter, further from his prime Holmes would get slaughtered even faster than the one who showed up in January of 1988. Fighting Eddie Gonzalez, Doc Anderson and Jamie Howe isn't gonna better prepare you and make you a better fighter. Especially when you're getting older...and fatter.
