Marciano beating Holmes. REDICULOUSE. Come on guys Holmes has the jab that Rock will eat all night. He has great defense, ring generalship and the smarts not to stand and slug. Behind the jab is his excellent right and very very underatted uppercut. Rocky does not beat Holmes period.

We have nice shiny colour footage of Holmes, so he must be better.

well it's either holmes taking a decision, or holmes getting careless and getting caught. Marciano would've finished Holmes if he had him hurt like others did in the past. if he goes slugging with holmes instead of boxing he will be in trouble

Holmes was never waxed until he was soft, old, and rusty as a nail in 1988 by Tyson...... Even after getting dropped 2 X by Tyson in Jersey, it took Tyson a 3rd droppage of Holmes to keep Larry sprawled..... That's a true man with a chin there......

Prime Holmes at 6' 3 1/2" tall and 212 ready to kill pounds, batters prime 5' 10 1/2" tall, 187 pound Rocky Marciano like a buck-toothed stepchild with zits on his face..... Yeah, it gets ugly for Marciano.......

    "The Homer" all the way.......

Did you see the Holmes-Shavers fight? Larry got hit with more force than Rocky could ever dream to generate and got right back up and kept on dominating. And to your point about Weaver...an 80 yr Joe Louis kept a jab in Rocky's face and tagged him with ease before predictably tiring out.

Because Shavers wasn't special in anything other than one punch power.

Marciano actually has the ability to keep steady pressure on and is a finisher.

I love how some people think that Holmes, a man who goes life and death with Ken Norton, Mike Weaver, Witherspoon, and Snipes is supposed to simply walk through the only unbeaten Heavyweight Champ in history

I don't buy it, the fact is that Holmes struggled with basically every quality fighter he ever fought. I don't dismiss his chances but few bouts between top 20 Heavyweights of all time are as easy as people sometimes like to think.

I agree with your point about classic matchups between top 20 atgs.:good
This would certainly be no walk in the park. Holmes would encounter a well conditioned, focused, motivated bruiser without an ounce of quit in him. He's just a bit on the smallish side and it concerns me that he doesn't have the athletic ability or boxing acumen to compensate. I honestly done't see any other outcome but a Larry Holmes UD.

You make some good points. I have thought about that a lot. But at the same time, Rocky did struggle with Walcott and Charles...and I don't think either were as good as Larry Holmes.

Athletic ability? Rocky has plenty of it. Checkout the way he manuevers in his crouch. He hits all different types of angles and unpredictable torso movements that one couldn't achieve unless they had athleticism. There is a reason Rocky tried out as a professional baseball catcher. The man was athletic.

Many fighters like Stander,Mercado,Holmes,Lyle got up from the one shot Shavers and went on to KO Earnie, in fact fighters who were KO'd by middleweights like Vicente Rondon who was KO'd by Bennie Briscoe and Bob Foster went the distance with Shavers and the 5"10 Bob Stallings dropped and dominated Earnie without going down.
