With these kinds of questions, one might as well just ask which fighter you like better and be done with it. Honestly, when you're deally with two elite fighters of this calibre either fighter could win. Holmes is faster, Lewis bigger and more powerful.
While I agree with this, there is another half to properly assess this fight. Prime Lewis was outjabbed by Frank Bruno. That does not bode well for Lennox.
What about Evander Holyfield, Prime Tyson, and Ken Norton? Not to mention Michael Spinks, who was a good fighter in the 80's.
Holmes struggled heavily against a past prime Norton and a novice and average Witherspoon. Then he lost to a former LHW Spinks. Lewis by TKO/UD.
Lewis struggled with a gatekeeper in Mercer and Lennox was knocked out cold in his prime against the average McCall and Rahman. Holmes TKO/UD.
Funny. That same gate-keeper is often referred to as one of Holyfields best wins. Not necessarily directed at you Guru, just pointing that out :good
Lewis beat McCall and Rahman in the rematches. Those "average" guys hit harder than Holmes so if you are thinking Holmes would knock Lewis out cold too, you are delusional.
You obviously missed most of Holmes' career. His right hand was certainly as good as Rahman's and McCall's. Come on now.
As good? Nahhh...it was clearly better. Not only did it carry more power, it was a sneakier right hand which found the mark amidst the best jab in heavyweight history. I wouldn't count Lewis out against Holmes entirely, but beating Larry would be no easy feat for any fighter who's ever laced the gloves.
I saw a lot of his fights. He threw everything but the ktichen sink at glass jawed Norton and couldn't do a dent. Holmes and Ali are great boxers but they both lack power. Of all the HW greats, Holmes and Holyfield are prolly the 2 fighters I would not give a high chance of beating Lewis. They will always make it a close fight but they would prolly lose. At least Tyson, Frazier, Foreman, Dempsey and Liston have great powers. And Ali, albeit not a power hitter, had too great skills and speed.
Alright man, whatever you say. I'm just glad you can extrapolate something besides Pacman KO. Still, you're severely underrating Holmes' straight right hand, which is regarded by most as one of the best straight rights. And you're doing this because of the Norton bout? Please man. Foreman, Cooney and Shavers all caught him cold and early. Foreman and Shavers arguably are the one and two most powerful punchers ever, and Cooney beat him when he was a shell of himself.
