(PRIME) Lennox Lewis vs. (PRIME) Sonny Liston

Take this to the classic section, so the usual old farts can prat about over there with it.

He's right you know. Thinking Liston could beat Lewis.. These oldheads man..

 

There are some doubts about his reach, but even if it's true, punching upwards is harder than punching straight or down. Then there's the big height and weight difference, the Steward trained version of Lewis knew how to clinch smaller fighters and put all his weight on them.
Also Liston was nowhere near as fast as Usyk in both hand and foot speed. From what I've seen Lewis was a faster puncher than Liston.

The reports I've seen of Liston's fight with Ali state how Liston struggled with fighting the taller Ali.

 

Sonny liston for sure, maybe lennox lewis is better overall in alltime sense but he did awful when people jabbed with him. he was outjabbed by ray mercer, sonny would have him for dinner

 

I'm glad the poll is currently 3/4 in favour of Lewis, because the thread itself is a trove of madness

It was better in my day, these youngsters these days, bla bla. Lewis is a better fighters than Liston simple as that really.

 

Th3 classic forum will talk about Lewis' vulnerable chin, but act like Liston has zero weaknesses. Foregone conclusion man.

 

That may or may not be true but what is fact in my day you did not insult your elders even if you didnt agree with them.Manners maketh the man

 

Same height and weight as Holyfield was pretty much, who gave Lewis all he could he handle in their 2nd fight.

Liston with his 84 inch reach and ATG jab would greatly trouble Lewis, but i think Lewis at his very best could pull it out.

 

Just because Liston could knock Lewis out doesn’t mean he will. I think a fully prepared Lewis knocks Liston out in the mid-rounds. IMO Liston is overrated H2H.

 

Holyfield did better in their second fight but Lewis still out landed him by a big margin, Lewis knows how to use his physical advantages.

 

I'm 40 (unsure if that makes me an old fart in your view) and I post predominantly in the Classic section. I voted Lennox.

 

I'm 23 and prefer old school boxing and i mostly post in classic forum aswell as you know. And i also voted for Lennox Lewis aswell, and i'm quite certain he would be favoured in the classic forum aswell. As many posters there rate Lewis as one of the best if not the best H2H Heavyweight in history.
