I've gone for a Lewis Decision.

Liston wins some rounds with his jab but i think Lewis has a slight hand speed advantage and his physical size and boxing ability wins it

liston stops him.liston is overall a better fighter.eventually he is gonna catch him and lewis's chin is not going to take it.liston is gonna rock him with a jab and finish him.

Liston by KO...I think Liston is the overall better fighter.

Oh, and too elobrate because that just isn't good enough for mr. suckbritian...better combination puncher, better head movement, better jab, better body puncher, and better footwork.

If Lewis struggled with a fat year lay off Mercer...wait till Liston brings the same stylistic problems to a whole other level.

Really, suckeggs shouldn't you be defending David Haye in general?

Fair enough... atleast you injected some thought into your opinion.

Can't say i agree with better combination puncher... I would say they were fairly even in that respect and Liston had a habit of neglecting his defence to throw slow wild swinging hooks... which against a dangerous inside fighter like Lewis could spell the end.

liston had the better left hook but lewis had one of the most potent right srosses in heavyweight history.when he could be bothered throwing it properly lewis had the better jab too but liston wins in the chin deprtment.

This would be a good fight. The size of Lewis paired with superior boxing ability , better hand speed and greater power makes it a comfortable Lewis UD or he KOs him in teh mid rounds , depending on the pace of the fight.

-Liston only went wild when he smelled blood...generally after he already put his man down once or twice.

-Lewis wasn't much of a combination puncher on the inside. He would look to smother, hold the head, and slip in that signature uppercut. Liston worked the body in combinations and had a huge variety of uppercuts and short hooks.

-I would suggest Lennox fight as tall as possible and smother Liston when he gets close. It wouldn't work but trying to match Liston on the inside...not happening. Steward would have a heart attack in the corner if Lennox tried to brawl with the Bear.

Early Lennox Lewis pre Stewerd loved to stand and trade combinations. Prime Lewis would use his superior size and weight to smother his opponent and rip in the occassional big right whether it be an uppercut or cross. But with Lewiss size advantage over Liston i think the smothering style would be very effective and because of the weight difference Liston would stay away from going inside as much as possible.

On the outside with Lewis effectively using his 5" height advantage Liston will struggle to enforce his jab the way he normally would

Lewis has the speed, size, strength, power, rangyness and fighting heart advantages. Liston has a punchers chance and Lewis fought countless punchers and beat them all

Liston isn't really a puncher though. How many times did he punch himself out or have stamina issues (pre Ali)?

He was more a technical fighter who relied on possibly the best jab in heayvweight history but happened to have monstrous power and a great left hook and uppercuts. He could fight successfully fight only behind his jab for rounds or even fights at a time, Liston was very patient.

As for the thread, I don't know. Liston is the stronger man than Holyfield and about the same size, and a faded Holy gave Lewis competitive bouts. I don't like Lewis against top notch jabbers.

Lennox Lewis never beat a prime fighter. What makes you think he could possibly beat prime Liston???

He waited for Tony Tucker and Mike Tyson to get old and addicted to cocaine before having the courage to get anywhere near them. How do you guys not see that Lennox Lewis and Joe Calzaghe were afraid to come to America until the best fighters there were shot?

Liston was definately stronger but i thought Holyfield was about 6ft 3"?

Styles make fights and i think this one is a decent thought provoking one. For me i just see Lewis's superior size and strength as well as his speed and power advantage winning the day. Liston loved to fight from the centre of the ring and so did Lewis so i guess it would come down to who could impose themselves more
