Both at there very best. This one intrigues me. I think strength wise both very similar. Both had decent chins.,Jeffries wouldn't be folding against sonny as soon as he took a punch. How does liston do against the rock solid Jeff and how does James deal with the long, punishing jab of sonny? 15 rounds?
Liston for me, he is the more polished boxer with better power and that great heavy jab. If a near 40 years old super middle can turn Jeffries face into raw hamburger for 8 rds, Liston would reduce it to a bloody mess. Jeffries made his rep wearing down older ,smaller men, while stoically taking their shots, that is not a good fight plan against a heavy duty, young hitter like Liston. The nearest reasonably good big man Jeffries beat was in and out Gus Ruhlin 199lbs, he was retired on his stool after 5 rds after a dismal showing. Great fight while it lasts.Either a clear decision win or a late rds tko .
The jab of liston was a dominant winning tool in his career definitely. I can't imagine many heavy s from any era having a easy time against liston at peak to be honest.
Correct . Prime Liston was capable of defeating any HW in history , He was a genetic Freak with skill .
