Bowe had great skills, but he would brawl when his boxing skills would have easily carried him to victory. Against a murderous hitter like Liston. That would be his undoing, Liston would have Bowe hurt on a couple of occasions & that would be enough to satisfy the judges. Liston 12 UD.
Liston wins this on the inside or on the outside. Bowe is vastly overrated because the Holyfield fights were so good. If he tries to box Liston he gets his head jabbed off, if he tries to brawl he gets blasted out.
I can't see Bowe winning here, honestly. Bowe on the inside with Liston would be suicide for him and Liston had the better jab anyway if he tried to outbox him. Golota beat him all around the ring with his jab and he was no where near Listons caliber in terms of his jab or ability. Yes, Bowe was past it but even at his best against Holyfield he was in serious trouble of being stopped, and Holyfield is no Liston. Liston beats him up with the jab and disposes of him in about 8, or 9 rounds.
bowes c grade defense would be his downfall. Liston was one of the all-time great punchers and a competent boxer as well. He would have little trouble connecting with bowes chin. I'd say that the fight would last 7 or 8 rounds before bowe fell.
Liston would stop Bowe late the first few rounds would be great back and forth but then Bowe's face would be messed up by Liston's jab who would be landing at will since Bowe had awful defence and it would take its tool.
I like Liston by dec , though he might pull off a stoppage victory late.Bowe would give hima real good fight, but the difference in power and Bowe's lack of a decent defence swings it Sonny's way ,imo.
Bowe's chin remains highly questionable. He was knocked out cold on several occassions late in his amateur career. He was destroyed by Lennox Lewis in the Olympics. His career was managed so that he avoided huge punchers ... Golata was a strong guy but not a huge puncher. Who did he KO? That being said I like Bowe a lot and the one that fought Holyfield the first time was a hell of a fighter ... Liston was a murderous puncher and a very dangerous opponent. I feel he would have stopped Bowe ... For the record, Lowry did more than hit Marciano once or twice. He had him hanging on for his life three times. No debate about it. Lol "He Grant" I love you. Marciano was almost knocked out a guy who career record is 60 wins and 54 loses not to mention this guy was only about 180 pound as well but Marciano is unstoppable nobody couold beat him. Amusing. Anyway Sonny Listons best win came against Cleveland Williams a overrated fighter and Floyd Patterson a super middleweight with a glass chin. Bowe best wins came against Holyfield. Liston was shown to be a quitter and a washed up Bowe got the crap beat out of him by Golota and didnt quit. Bowe is the bigger man and would Tko Liston in about 5 rounds or less.
Liston is overrated head to head, Bowe is underrated. Bowe would stop the coward in 9. As soon as Liston knows he isn't going to make his man quit, he's going to crawl up in a ball and **** himself. Bowe would punish him for having no heart and being one of the most disgraceful "champions" in the sports history.
I knew you'd react to that. I actually like the idea of Liston, but I do think he's overrated head to head.

Those are very funny little soundbite type comments, one could easily counter that Bowe's best win was against a blown-up cruiserweight with heart problems and it's funny how he was washed up vs Golota when those two fights came immediately after the best win on his whole record. No, he didn't quit vs Golota, he just got the crap beaten out of him twice by a guy who was blasted out in one round by the man Bowe dumped the belt to avoid.
