lou saverese what a warrior.... talent, no talent, shot or not shot this guy is one of the most gritty and personable heavyweight boxers in the world today. how would he have done against the equally tough as nails franz botha i remember when botha was a world titlist for a short time before he was stripped by a shakey alligation to steriod use. saverese was a very padded record who fell short against the more talented fighter but had enough raw strength and size to beat some contenders as well. botha won the ibf title which was vacant against axel schultz which was disputed.... as was axels loss to george foreman.... and george foremans win to saverese. i think this would be a great fight with both knocked down and both getting back up to finish.
Whoa................. A prime Botha is very, very underrated. He would easily beat Savarese most likely by knocking him out. Botha is no chump.
:huh :huhShultz lost to Foreman although I did have Shultz winning on my scorecard. Botha never beat Foreman or even fought Foreman but he did win a contraversial decision over Shultz and Saverese fight Foreman tough but came up short even on my card.
Botha would kick his ass. Wide UD for White Buffalo. Also. A lot has changed in the 10 years since this was made, move this to the classic mods.
In the ten years it's been since I made the post that someone just liked, I'd like to retract it a bit. Yes, Savarese was a heavyweight so there's only so much one can do there, but I think he used to post here, though I can't be sure. If so, he was a good guy who was clearly a student of the game in my "speaking" with him here. My words were too sharp and snarky (as they often are, frankly) for me to want a nice guy and honest professional like him to see that. Guess there's something there we can all learn from. Something I feel bad about, now that I read my comment there.
I'll call it a draw. People are selling Savarese short, I think. He ended Buster Douglas' career, could have gotten the decision against Foreman, and knocked out a few other decent names.
Doesn't Savarese have, or at least had, a little promotional thing going on? I think I remember reading something about him giving back to the community, trying to set things up for boxers after retirement... Maybe I'm completely thinking of someone else. Gerry Cooney did the same thing, without the promoting. Another gentle giant that was unfairly hyped up as a "white hope", just like Lou Savarese to a lesser degree.
