Doesn't the Carnera fight at least suggest that Louis dealt with this kind of fighter well stylistically?

I mean you would have thought that he would have done at least as well as the smaller heavyweights Louis was facing.

It suggests that Louis could beat a big man. That's it. Carnera is nothing like Lewis.

Size isn’t as big a factor as people will think (nobody has ever said that before in these threads, have they?!) - the real question is about skill level as Lewis was crucially a skilled super heavy which is why he would be tough to overcome. But I think Joe is simply better as well as greater and I think he could land enough to put Lewis out eventually. Potentially great fight, though.

It actually suggests a lot more than that.

If a big fighter was Louis's kryptonite, then wouldn't you expect Carnera to have managed some sort of effective resistance?

Wouldn't you at least have expected him to do as well as guys like Braddock and Pastor?

facts legend and why they always compare those trash to lennox is odd why not name somebody skilled who was big oh its cause he never did so why say only a person who was big in weight

well let's say I play college baseball or football i name a big name there does that mean they compare to the big time just cause their big time in their league no cause its 2 different skill levels so why compare its meaningless and idiotic

Of course not, but if two fighters have a very similar size and style, then a good performance against one, is likely to translate into a good performance against the other.

Beating Carnera doesn't mean that you will beat Lewis, but it does suggest that you might overperform against him.

Carnera was much different than Lewis, don't see any resemblance.

I think Louis might chin him. Lewis had trouble with a good jab so Louis could disrupt him with his and set up a good right hand.

At the end of the day, there are only so many things that a big man can do, to negate a smaller man.

They are all very effective, but they are also few and simple.

They can try to keep them at range, try to keep them moving forward, try to use their weight to tire them out, try to outmuscle them.

Both of these two men essentially played that big man game.

Louis just seemed to have an answer, for everything in the big man play book.

That means that Lewis has got a fight on his hands.
