Holmes is often credited with having history's best jab, at Heavyweight. He makes arguably the best use of this "mandatory" weapon. However, Louis' was harder and crisper. Unless you have ALI's foot work, Louis will always find a way to close the gap between himself and you. Once he does that, he can hurt you. Louis has better balance than Holmes. But this is only once he has his man in range. Louis has never faced a jabber like Holmes. Holmes has faced power punchers but none who use their power as well as Louis does. IOW, Louis would find a way to time Holmes' jab, unlike most. Joe Louis has the total ****nal, minus good foot work. He will not need good foot work against Holmes because Larry isn't a runner. He can move, when needed, but he wouldn't run in this case. There really isn't a great difference in size here. Louis was just under 6'2"/207 lbs. Holmes 6'3.5"/212 lbs. By the middle rounds, Holmes is ahead on points. However, Louis has made good use of the body attack and is starting to detect a pattern in Holmes' attack. In round 9, with Holmes ahead, Louis times the jab and lands a solid right to the jaw. Holmes ties him up, clears his head and goes to push Louis off when another solid right lands to the side of the head, sending Holmes down ....... hard. Larry struggles to rise, just making the count. Louis patiently stalks but Holmes makes the end of the round. The next few rounds are close but Louis has now caught up on the cards. In round 13, Louis hurts Holmes again. However, again, Holmes survives, this time without hitting the canvas. At the end, the decision is close. Louis W15 UD, total of 4 points on 3 cards.
Louis stops him... A fighter who got hurt by mediocre fighters(next to Luis) like weaver, snipes, spoon(good one),shavers... Is not surviving against a powerful sniper.all you need to know is... Holmes got aggresive and traded with punchers, if holmes gets catched he will be down and out. I will bet that the cat catches the mouse this time
