tough battle, Louis is my favorite ATG #1 heavyweight but he would always have trouble with Marciano's pressure, I dont think either man would come out of these type of fights undamaged. Louis was the greatest combination power puncher ever and Marciano had great one shot power and stamina and will. A prime Louis brings more to the table but both would be the best fighter and hardest that the other fought. This is the same case for Holmes vs Tyson and while a prime Holmes may have offered a bit more in terms of offense I think the results may have been the same.
You have to think that old louis lasted very long vs rocky. So the early danger would come from Luis.he was a sniper and one of the best finishers of all time, marciano could be hurt, if Luis hurts him early.. He would finish the job,( you must realise that it would be tons of shots in combinations not a single shot). But marciano was an animal... It is a real 50/50 fight
Following eight rounds, only one of them looked like he'd been in a fight. http://thumbs.worthpoint.com/WIpmJ_...510/01/1_93109f54fe3e7cb22517452d94a8e06b.jpg http://rmyauctions.com/lot-5788.aspx Against the Louis of a decade earlier, do we guarantee that Rocky's face allows him to last the distance? Aside from Charles, Joe didn't usually leave a match looking like he'd been getting punched in the face. (In fact, he's got a better track record than Ali in that respect.) No matter how tough somebody is, certain faces are simply not made for fighting. (PKA legend Joe Lewis admitted he was one of them, being extremely susceptible to cuts.) Marciano was in danger of being stopped during Charles II, just as Hagler was during Hearns. I don't see Rocky avoiding such a crisis against an early 1940's Louis, or being able to take out Joe the way he did Ezz when such an emergency arose. After their rematch, Louis left Godoy's face looking like the head of the Black Dahlia's corpse.
Joe Louis by late stoppage or clear points verdict. His speed and variety of punches would be too much for Rocky.
1. All of their common sparring partners said Marciano hit much harder. 2. The guys Louis really had trouble with, had lets; Conn, Walcott, Charles...Rocky didn't. I would take Louis. Better fighter and the better fighter usually wins. A washed up Louis, gave Rocky all he could handle.
Jersey Joe Walcott, who lost his title to Marciano in a 13th round KO and a rematch in a 1st round KO, was asked who hit harder, Joe Louis or Rocky Marciano. "Joe could take you out with combinations...Marciano was a one-punch artist. He threw every punch like you throw a baseball, as hard as he could. I have to say, with all respect to Joe, Marciano hit harder." "Louis is faster with a barrage of punches, but Rocky hurts more with one punch than Joe did with four. Rocky hurts you every time he connects." Response to a reporter from a sparring partner of both Joe Louis and Rocky Marciano. I saw quotes from two fighters with their names, but can't find it now, this was years ago.
They never said "MUCH harder, said simply harder shot for shot" plus Luis was well past his prime vs walcott and he have lost speed at this time. Any way bob satterfield was rated as harder puncher than marciano by common rivals. Does not matter how hard you hit shot for shot, a combination of blows always hurts more
Walcott said that on the TV programme The Way It Was, he was briefly Louis' sparring partner but never Rocky's .It's on You Tube and Walcott never said "much harder" That sparring partner you refer to was Keene Simmons ,he was never a sparring partner of Louis'.Simmons fought Marciano and with a less tolerant referee might have won on a TKO as Rocky was badly cut .I've never seen any quote from a sparring partner of both who said Marciano was the much harder puncher.
If Marciano hurt you more with one punch than Louis did with four" That's "Much Harder", isn't it? BTW; you are right on one level, common sparring partners said that Tommy Morrison hit harder than Tyson.
Walcott was "a sparring partner" for Louis...For 15 rounds in 12/47, and for 11 in 5/48. I "hear" they even used 10 oz gloves. If Simmons was not a sparring partner of Louis, how did he know who hit harder?
Walcott never said Marciano hurt you more with one punch than Louis did with four. Here is the footage containing the quote ,his quote begins around 26.36. https://uk.search.yahoo.com/yhs/sea...=yhs-btyuser&type=bt_tier_c/bt_dial/bt_access
