just look at what morales did really. left jab, right to the head, circle, right to the body, jab to the body, right to the head. Repeat. Floyd is even better at htat and floyd has organgatang arms. there is good reason Top Rank werent eager for the bout
Pac who fought Cotto fights the post 2007 Mayweather. Mayweather who fought the likes of Judah where his speed is insane probably wins.
prime pac pushes floyd, floyds moves and excapes, also lands some with his right hand. but he cant run for 12 and sometimes pp catches and unleashes, could even trumble pm. wins some rounds just by landing more and pushing the action, landing his 1-2-3-4 flurrys. if pac fights intelligent like vs oscar, he stays in the outside and try himself to fight fire with fire and let floyd come to him and try to counter, prime pac had the speed to counter. down the line, pp wins 4-5 rounds, floyd outboxes, by his move in, score, move out technic and his superb lateral movemant to beat pp by UD, winning between 7-8 rounds, yet there is always the danger that pac lands one clear shot and wumbles and keeps on going with flurry that could en up badly for floyd, imagine a mosley had more energy after the shot he wumbled floyd with, so imagine a prime pac going for the kill. but, if I had to put a big some of money on it I would got for my rediction of floyd ud over pac, yet would not be shocked, would floyd lose.
I enjoy you and Bogo's posts. Makes for good debates. And this post right here is excellent. Bogo - amidst all your angle & footwork talk, you forget range. Changes all that sh*t, man.
Range is definitely an issue. That's why the straight right to the body for me is a given for Floyd, the angle to the torso is pretty much always there and Floyd can reach out and touch Pac like that. But angle matters a bit more in this scenario IMO. Unless you have crazy tentacle arms, you can't reach an opponent who side-steps you. And in one translation I did of Morales and Barrera breaking down their fights and Morales' fight with Pacquiao, he mentions circling too far outside: Morales:...So distance, movements, knowing how to step....if you watch, all-all-all-all of his fights, his opponents stand in front, and step so lightly to the left (lightly makes leftward steps), not behind him. Announcer Dude: But is that zone..is that something that you figured during the fight, or is that something that you studied? Morales: No, no, no. That's something that you study, that you practice; you put yourself to watch videos and you say ok, here are the moments and the timing; there are moments and timings to throw a punch, to block, to throw combinations... [yt]NAxYCA7Jpuw[/yt] It's why I think Marquez making himself small when turning in-range was an advantage, he could stay close and make the pivots more dramatic. (PS I'm glad you enjoy my posts and we can talk and disagree in civil fashion.)
Thanks - gonna check that link out. Yeah, distance is why I give Manny a tiny chance of beating Floyd while both are in there respective primes. At a distance, he's f*cked. In close range, he's f*cked. In short, what he can hope for in making the fight competitive.
Would you say the straight to the body is a shot that's more available for "tall" boxers? Morales raped manny with this shot, and he's quite lanky for a Mexican. Marquez landed a good straight downstairs on manny in the third fight, but I can't recall any other incidents of it landing
Pick another topic. Overated Pac is done. The fight wouldnt be competative back then. Now it would be murder.
In Pac's prime he didn't fight one fighter with elite speed, athleticism, reflexes, timing, counter punching etc.. He fought mostly big, strong, pressure fighters. There was always question on how Pac would fair against a guy like that during his prime. And after losing to an older Marquez its questioned even more how Pac would be able to defeat guys like that. Pac wouldn't be able to defeat Mayweather because not only is Mayweather faster and longer then Pac which again Pac never faced a fighter who was faster then him in the ring which would probably rock his world if he ever did. Mayweather hasn't shown that he is a soft fighter who will mentally break down when he gets hit. He got rocked by Mosley and laughed to himself in the corner out of embarrasment rather then get worried. When he got hit vs Castillo he went toe to toe in the later rds rather then get on his bike and run. And when he got hit vs Cotto and was bleeding from his nose he was smiling about it and proceeded to outwork Cotto. The only hope Pac fans had was that if Mayweather got hit enough he would fold. But Mayweather answered those questions. Mayweather passed his test, Pac failed his.
Floyd resume: Judah - Judah should have won via DQ from Mayweathers team and think Tszyu. Baldomir - Who? Yeah that's right. Delahoya - I had Delahoya winning 8-4 rounds. Hatton - Pacquiao KO'ed him in round 2 and took Floyd almost the whole fight. Marquez - Floyd came in over the weight limit. Mosley - Mosley is way over the hill and rocked Floyd. Ortiz - We all saw the sucker punch and Ortiz is horrible and is a dancer now. Cotto - Past his prime washed up after Margarito/Pacquaio destroyed him, then look at what Trout did to him. 8 fights in the past 8 years, it's a joke of a resume and in reality he should be around #5 at best. Mayweather is the biggest fraud in boxing. :-(
Now ask yourself How is manny going to keep it short ranged though? especially since he so often miss judges the distance and punches himself off balance. Its not hard to get close to manny and its not hard to get away from him either. And even if he gets close floyd is brillant there also. No JAB and poor INSIDE fighting skills doesnt make for a good matchup for him you not just beating floyd at 1 distance you need to be well rounded in all to beat him.
Juan isnt athletic enough nor does he have the reach to throw that shot consistently so instead he opted for the left hook downstairs that'd keep him out of harms way. With how slow he is he'd get caught with a right hook from manny if he threw it to much.
