Ali would need to cut him to stop him imo but yeah 30lbs and the combo of that much reach and footspeed is just too much to give up. Marciano never had to chase down a mover like that, that style didnt exist in the HW division.

Patterson at 188 pounds held his own with Ali in a fight which took place shortly after the FOTC. Marciano at that weight was much stronger, harder hitting and much better work rate than any version of Patterson. I think Marciano makes it tougher than most imagine.

Marciano stands at the negative extreme of the scale from Patterson in terms of hand and foot speed... despite what some contend. And I am not convinced that Marciano punched any more effectively than Patterson did with his left hook. They were different types of power but rendered relatively the same effect.

Hi everyone, for me it's Ali by a 12 rounds to 3 type decision if Marciano isnt chopped up n stopped on cuts.

Ali was a genius at cutting and marking up his opponents faces with those slashing type punches and Rocky was VERY susceptible to cuts.

If Jersey Joe Walcott led Rocky comfortably after 13 rounds before being kayoed then a bigger, faster and much tougher version like Ali is going to win pretty easily in my opinion.

    Cheers All.

You beat me to the punch Seamus. Patterson has a pretty devastating left hook, ask Ingo or HenryCooper. I reckon he kayoed more people than Rocky did with one punch.

Floyd is still the fastest combination puncher I have seen at heavyweight.

Before Marciano turns pro: "He'll never be a good fighter"
Marciano: Goes on an undefeated win streak.

Before Marciano get's a title shot: "He'll never become heavyweight champion, he's too small"
Marciano: Becomes heavyweight champion of the world.

After winning the title: "He won't keep it. He's not skilled enough to beat a great fighter like Ezzard Charles"
Marciano: Beats Charles twice and retires as the only undefeated heavyweight champion in history.

Everything that people today say as reasons that Marciano wouldn't be able to be great with "modern heavyweights" or bigger heavyweights he was already told in the past. He proved them wrong every time.

Marciano tko late. Ali's legs were terrible in this fight. He would take too much punishment from Marciano and as the rounds go longer Ali tires even more and things go in Marciano's favor even more.

Hi Mr DWop, do you believe any heavyweight in boxing history could beat Marciano ? From the tone of your posting even huge aggressive punchers like Liston and Foreman or much larger boxers like Wladimir K or Ali would fall to the tiny Marciano.

    Fairy tales in my opinion.

Explain to me how he came within a hairs breath of losing to Jersey Joe Walcott who was a smallish, 37 year old guy who Joe Louis and many others had already kayoed yet he can defeat a 6 ft 3, 215 pound unbeaten fighter with a chin of granite.

To select Rocky to kayo Ali late is just silly in my opinion.

    Cheers.

He never proved he could beat a fast, modern heavyweight with power.

Marciano would be doing well to see the finish.

Marciano should at least outperform Bonavena, who did pretty well.
