I've tried, but I can't think of any others that may be capable of stopping Margo.

Me, Grinder, with less than 50 rounds sparring experience to KTFO Wlad's egg chin. You heard it first on ESB.

I heard Wlad didn't want a piece of me though. He scraped up one of my rounds on video getting pounded against the ropes by some semi-amateur flyweight.

Got him running scared, maybe he'll accept 1 million and I'll promise not to crack his egg chin.

You bring up solid, fair points here. The main reason I took the stance I did is that on the inside is the one place where Hearns height worked against his cannon of a punch, with the exception of body punches since it was easier for him to still get enough torque on his shots. Cotto being a half foot shorter actually gives him a little advantage on getting full power head shots off on the inside. When Tommy tried going balls out in an interior brawl, he'd still be leaning and twisting to get the most leverage he could on his shots and with his frame and long arms, he was open to getting countered as his head would move back at the end of the shot without any real protection- meaning anyting that landed had the duel effect of landing against his head moving towards the blow, which probably made his chin come off as worse than it really was since he took alot of straight on shots in his career without going down. Combine this with the fact most guys trying to counter in this way were in desperation mode and putting everything they have in their shots, and voila. Big time damage when caught.

Most guys weren't good enough take advantage of this, however, and Margo isn't the kind of counterpuncher that would, but it's an interesting thing to note since the one offensive thing he does have going for him besides workrate is the ability to hit from different angles with solid power.

However, Hearns was also effective enough as a body puncher to do some serious damage if that's what he stuck with. Simply put, there's just so many more ways Hearns can win the fight, I had to go with him. I always gameplan a small percentage of "unfortunate events" with Hearns though, simply because they did happen at times and sometimes it's easy to forget since he had one of the greatest offensive arsenals in the history of the sport. And hey -sometimes it's fun just to play devil's advocate on threads where people are fishing for the "fighter x by death" response. :D

I never boasted any ultimate knowledge on boxing. I'm a fan though. that is why I used the sentence, I AM NOT SURE. Now, if you want, I can teach you the difference between I AM NOT SURE and, MARGARITO WOULD BEAT HIS ASS.

I have spare time for people in need like you.:rasta

Any info on this guy? I`m not sayin margo will or will not win this, but thinkin he might be able to go the distance if the above guy did. Unless the above guy went into a shell after tastin tommys power or somthin.

One thing you have to consider is that Cotto is a lot smaller than Hearns, and has much shorter arms.

He could land those sharp shots inside of Margarito's reach as Margarito was falling in. Hearns would certainly not have that advantage.

Robinson, Trinidad, Duran, maybe Leonard over 15 rounds.

And as for your Hagler reference, Hagler was a MW.

regardless of what people think the main thing i see is an interesting fight. Margs hard will and chin would make for a good fight vs Hearns right and suspect chin. by the way Sweet pea, Cuevas wasn't known for his chin ever!

Robinson- fair chance; a good case can be made for it

Trinidad- fair chance; a good case can be made for it

Duran- minimal to no chance IMO. Never KO'd a meaningful fighter above lightweight besides Cuevas, who was already sliding. I jus can't see him KO'ing a bigger fighter with an iron chin now when he never did it in his actual career. This is the only headscratcher in the group to me.

Leonard - same as Robinson and Trinidad.

    3 out of 4 ain't bad, though.:thumbsup

With Duran, it would be more due to an accumulation of body punishment than anything. I just think over 15 Duran would outclass him so bad that a stoppage would be inevitable. And the only reason he didn't stop Palomino was because the bout was over 10 rounds, not 15. I just can't see Margarito hanging in there with the Montreal Duran when he's outclassed everywhere.

This is a classic case of overrating an older fighter and underrating a modern day fighter. Yes, Hearns had amazing power, but he didn't do well with pressure at all.

For those of you stating Hearns would TKO Margarito or even KO Margarito cold, well there's no evidence of that as Margarito's chin is complete admantium (wolverine type ****).

It would be safe to assume Hearns would land a lot, but Margarito would too, there lies the real issue. Can Hearns handle Margarito's power and pressure for 12 rounds?

If Hearns were to stop Margarito, which is a definite possibility, it would most likely be due to an accumulation of punches late in the fight. If Hearns were to score a stunning KO over Margarito, it would most likely have to be late in the fight as well with Margarito being real beat up and catching something nasty.

During this whole time, Hearns would be eating brutal body shots and uppercuts. Additionally, Hearns would most likely deiced to trade (just like he did against Hagler) and this would be his downfall. Margarito's chin is of the same calibur as the Hagler's and Chuvalo's of the world, Hearns is not.

This would be the difference. I believe Margarito would be able to take more punishment and end Hearns before Hearns could stop Margarito.

Stylistically it's a horrible fight for Hearns. A relentless pressure fighter with a phenomenal chin, excellent power and an iron will and that spells trouble for Hearns. People forget that Hearns landed ridiculous bombs on Hagler and they didn't faze him. I can see the same thing happening with Margarito stopping him late.

One final thing: Obviously Hearns was a much better boxer and could win a UD, but his mentality was to brawl and he would have against Margarito, which is why I would pick Margarito to win by stoppage.

    1. Hearns has fought more skilled, bigger, faster and better opposition with greater power than Margarito.

    2. Unlikely the fight would go 12 rounds. Margo is slow stater. Hearns is just the opposite. Hearns KO's Margo in 4.

    3. Like another poster said; Margo couldn't even beat a poor mans version of Tommy Hearns - Paul Williams. Yet somehow Margo stops Hearns? PLEASE!
