He had a blah fight against Clottey then he lost to a damned prospect! You don't get into "dogfights" with PROSPECTS! A prospect who next lost to Quintana. Margarito didn't even rematch the guy. You ain't "the baddest man on the planet" going out like that. That is what screwed him out of big fights.

Laugh all you want, but Margarito faltered every time a big fight was right around the corner. Marg wasn't ducked. Margarito not being in big fights was all about his ill timed sub par performances.

    * You are being extremely biased, or completely niave. I don't give a **** if Williams was a 'prospect' or not, Williams was a beast at the time, and its very very rare anyone at 147 is going to be able to fight Williams on the front foot like Margarito did and beat him. Quintana fight doesn't mean ****, as its a totally different styles matchup, and he then got KTFO in 1 round in the rematch. This has nothing to do with the fact that spouting off about 'Williams beat his ass' exposes how blind some of you are being, (or bias), and honestly lose some credibility. Nothing about that fight was an ass beating.
    * I don't even know why you are bring up ducks or big fights, I didn't say anything about him being ducked

Margo has never been the same after the hand wrap fiasco. He was still in his prime and coming of a fight of the year fight with Cotto.

This is why the hand wrap thing will always haunt Margarito.

Margarito was not in his prime. In fact, I'd say that he was already past his prime when he fought Cotto. Margarito was at his peak from 2002-2006, when no one would fight him and he had to take on other opponents no one would fight as well, culminating in bouts like Clottey and Williams. Real age and ring age are two different things. He was still formidable when he met Cotto but just look at his hand and foot speed from earlier in the decade and you'll see a noticeable difference.

Stop just stop! There were no big fights to be had at the time and/or he struggled and/or lost. Who was this "no one" that "wouldn't fight him"? Who?!? Saying that is like saying everyone (Peterson, Matthysse, Garcia, etc...) is ducking Soto-Karass ignoring the fact that the "duckers" aren't in the division yet. Why has Margarito magically become a world beater AFTER he was repeatedly sparked?!? :nut

    Fun competitor? Yes. Worldbeater? No.

I'm referring to the earlier part of the last decade.

Prime P willi got outboxed by Quintana.:patsch. I don't care if he won by KO1 in the second one, he still lost once so he can lose to someone else on that list too.

Well yeah anyone can lose to anyone but I think that was a clear bad style for Williams.

I understand, ~2002-2006. I am just asking who was avoiding him at WW and when? Marg had losses and/or tough fights in 2004, 2006, 2007, 2009. FMJ didn't hit WW until 2005. Pac in 2008. Cotto in 2006.

I just don't remember guys ducking him when Forrest, Mosley, Mayorga, Williams, Clottey, Spinks, Judah, Baldomir, Santos, where reigning over or contending in the division. He won many. He worked his way into contention. He lost a couple. I don't remember outright dominance.

    I agree.

Both Williams and Margo would spice up the division. Yes both are beatable.

I think both beat Soto-Karass and he is contending.

I don't think I recall saying he dominated although prior to his loss to Williams, he hadn't lost at 147 since he was 18. And Don King most certainly ensured his fighters steered clear of him (Mayorga, Spinks, Judah) as he feared losing a grip on the division.
