196Osh pointed out the very reason that I noted the fact that Roy last fought at 160 when he was only 25 years old. I'd bet on a 27-28 year old Haglar over a 25 year old Roy every time. Marvin was not the same fighter when he fought Hearns, Mugabi, and Lenoard. He was one month from his 33rd birthday when he fought SRL, and significantly faded.

Roy's last fight at 160 was just the fight before he schooled Toney.

I would pick that Jones to beat Hagler by close but clear UD.

And you could be right about your pick. However, I think a number of guys on this thread are only considering a version of Haglar that was in his thirties. That's not the same fighter that destroyed Minter, avenged the Antfuermo draw, and beat up Hamsho, et.

Indeed. I do not think it would be a blow out. Most people who are good posters and are commenting are counting on a few things.

That being Hagler's body shots woulds would ware Jones down, which was nearly everybodies plan vs Jones and it didn't work because he takes them so well, and does not slow down.

    or

That Jones was too young and inexperienced, but his best win was straight after this fight.

Then there are the few, the proud, the chin checkers. Well Jones was never down or hurt at 160-168, ever and before he moved down from HW he was knocked down on one occasion in 48 fights.

People saying Hagler could win are not wrong at all. People saying he would stop Roy are nuts.

Hagler was past his prime at this time (and still IMHO lost good part of the fight outside the ring as Leonard choosed number of rounds, gloves or ring size). If you want to judge this fight basing on past-prime performances, why don't you relive the images of Jones being knocked down by Tarver?

Also, I don't think the fact RJJ was harder puncher than Leonard would make any difference. Hagler faced the hardest punchers of his era without being down or hurt.

I would slightly favour Hagler, especially at 15 rounds, but wouldn't be surprised either if Jones gets an UD.

If you take Jones over Hagler, then you got to take Jones over Monzon.

I think Jones beats the young Hagler, but the mature Hagler that turned the fights into wars, especially 15 round fights, then Hagler stops Jones late.

I would go with Jones by UD his talent was just unreal no disrespect to marvin. Not only is he super fast and have great reflexes but his power is on the underrated side.

That's a very good post. I'd still take Haglar, but I'm biased as hell in fantasy matches when it comes to Haglar, Hearns, or Arguello.
