LOL Prime Hagler would have knocked Glass Jaw Roy out cold. I can't believe how people disrespect a legit ATG like Hagler like this. Unbelieveable. :rofl :patsch

    They are both ATG's.

Saying that someone will be beaten by an ATG is not disrespectful.

Leonard schooled Hagler (don't give me that conspiracy ****), so Jones certainly could.

RJJ would win a pretty clear UD in my opinion, he is a nightmare style for hagler, so fast and accurate he would be able to outbox him on the outside, roy never showed any problems with his chin at this weight and hagler as great as he is at middle is not a julian jackson like puncher so i would be suprised if he knocked roy out with 1 punch. And roy is a good enough ring general to not get in a war with hagler

Hagler would have chewed Roy up and spit him out. Roy would not be able to hurt Hagler where Hagler would have been able to hurt Roy's fragile Chin.

Look at the level of fighters Hagler fought and the guy's Roy fought. Hagler would win by stoppage.

Roys chin was fine at that weight/age..

Hagler reigned in a weak age of middleweights and had his biggest moments against big names from lower weights..

He wouldn't hurt Hagler, I agree..but he would leather his big bald face all night (i.e. Leonard)

Incidentally I think prime BHop beats Hagler - an entity Jones also beat.

In fact, I change my mind ---> Jones knocks Hagler out - Hagler wouldn't run over Jones like a Hearns - Roy at middleweight matches Hagler for strength and Power and exceeds him at ability.

Roy beat hopkins who is better than any middleweight that hagler beat, yes bernard was not at his prime but he was not that far removed from it and roy beat him with one hand.

Prime Hagler was a beast. I would certainly not bet against him in any fight at 160.
But I do think he would be the best fight for Jones Jr at middleweight. His perfect style, power punching in both hands, high boxing skills and his southpaw stance would be a hell for Jones.

Removed from it? He had yet to hit his primen period. Hagler was a better fighter than that Hopkins or any for that matter IMO.

Yes he probably is, never said he wasn't though i said hopkins was better than any of hagler opponents at middle, i meant not reached prime obviously

I would have to watch some old hagler fights too see. Ive really only watched hagler-hearns. Id also need to watch some old roy fights as well.

I am thinking though that many others havent watched enough fights of either to make a good decision and are just talking out their ass. I am sure some of them didnt even see the Roy-Hopkins fight. Now Roy won fair and square and had a hand injury at that. But Hopkins won quite a few rounds himself and Roy did get up on the ropes and thats when he lost rounds, same as the first Tarver fight. Hops lost because he had a hard time landing and a hard time dealing with Roy's speed but Hops at this time wasnt the boxing whiz that he became later. If he was able to get a rematch a few years later he could probably win with a few adjustments.

So I dont buy into the idea that Roy was untouchable at 160, especially by one of the greatest middleweights if not the greatest of all time, hagler. It would depend on how well he could cut off the ring and get Roy on the ropes. If he could do that then he would certainly certainly win rounds.

I didn't think Jones/Hopkins was particularly close until Roy started coasting in the later rounds. He clearly proved his superiority at that stage, and while Hopkins improved, so did Jones. Though prime for prime it would likely be closer, I'd stick with Jones.

Your reasoning quite debatable. Is the 93' version of Bernard Hopkins better than Hearns, Duran,Mugabi...

Hagler wasn't slow back in 1980 when he fought Minter for the title. A lot of people just remember Hagler frm the Leonard fight.

No i'm aware he was not slow, however jones was far far faster, i think jones would fight a very safety 1st display against hagler, box and move and use his speed to pick up a points win, if hagler drags him in to a war he would beat jones i just don't see that happeing

Hopkins in 93 was better than duran and mugabi for sure in my opinions, hearns was close though i think hopkins was far better than people think in the jones fight, not as clever and cunning as he would become but still a very good fighter and a very good win
