Hagler would beat Jones at middleweight by late KO or UD. For those who think Hagler would be hard pressed to catch Jones at MW, you should seriously look at Hagler's early career well before the Leonard match. Hagler was one of the smoothest fighters with excellent head movement. He knew how to cut the ring off and had better footwork than most of the fighters Jones has ever fought. He wasn't the easiest guy to hit either, picking off shots and using his head on the inside. Hagler would bang Jones to the body and stay on him like he did against Hearns. I don't deny that Jones would land some good shots on Hagler and hurt him early with right hands like Hearns did. He's just not beating Hagler over 12 and definitely not over 15 rounds.
Prime Archie Moore, Holman Williams, Charley Burley, Ezzard Charles, Billy Conn and Bob Foster would beat Jones at 168, moreso 175. Sugar Ray Robinson beats him at 160 and I'd wouldn't bet against Jake LaMotta either. Harry Greb would give him a bad beating at MW and would rough him up like he's never been roughed up before. Carlos Monzon, Rodrigo Valdes and Bennie Briscoe would give Roy Jones some of the toughest fights of his career. Out of these three, I'd pick Monzon as a clear winner by UD over Jones.
No they wouldn't Yeah mickey mouse would probably beat Roy too. Roy suckdd. Peter Manfredo would beat Jones too.
I think that game plan would probably be best for Hagler, to be the aggressive whirlwind he was against Tommy, rather than how he usually fought.
Here we go again. You talk about disrepect when you, yourself talk about Jones (an ATG) having a glass jaw all the time. You dont know **** about boxing so please just STFU fool....
I cannot accept that LaMotta could beat Jones. That is a case of old-fighter bias and dewy-eyed nostalgia IMO. As is being so confident that a fighter you can't really have seen that much of (Greb) would 'punish' a super-fit super-powerful rapid fighter like Jones. You may think he's a greater fighter p4p (I do too from what I know of him), but I can't say with any confidence he could beat RJJ in a h2h fight. Holman Williams, Bernie Briscoe, and Rodrigo Valdes would have zero chance against peak Roy Jones. Burley, Conn, Foster and Moore were all great fighters who would have a chance, but I would fancy Jones to beat them all h2h. I think Monzon would have the best chance of beating Jones of anyone at 160, and Charles the best chance at light-heavyweight. I wouldn't fancy anyone to beat him at 168. Although Ezzard Charles had great wins around that weight, I think Jones would be too much for him at those weights, same as I think Charles would be too much for him at 175 or higher. Jones was better at 168 IMO, Charles was better at weights higher than 168.
Why do you find that proposition to be ridiculous? Not to say I agree but it's by no means 'controversial' to say that RJJ is the best SMW of all time...
Answer this: Was Hagler ever brutally KOed TWICE or put on his ass by Lou De Valle? Was he? Look at WHO and WHERE Hagler fought. He was not afraid to go overseas and fight. That is what World Champions do. Hagler's competition and resume takes a dump on Roy's. That is a fact.
I think if you read the title of the thread, you'll see that this is a discussion on h2h, not resume, nor the losses a fighter sustained when he was shot. If the discussion is h2h, we are talking about the two guys at their peak.
