who wins this tear up i feel that on his best night gomez was more then just a domestic/european product may be he hangs with gatti for 6 or 7 rounds in an all out war

gatti, immensly easy. but good hearty performance by gomez.
gatti was much bigger physically could punch, very hard, and had a good chin...also he can use a jab.

gomez is too small, too brawly and not really a precise one shot puncher.

I can't believe I'm about to say this but Gatti outboxes him for 5 or so rounds before stopping him.

I'd say even shorter than that fight and maybe a bit more of a beating

Yep you're probably right. I think Gomez-Gatti is one of those "anything you can do, I can do better" brawls which also summed up Neary-Ward for me.

aah, Neary-Ward, one of my all time favourite fights. I still get goosebumps remembering the unknown Ward coming out to Whitesnake, & after one of my buddies had told me Ward was a nutcase & was being unfairly written off before the fight, my fires were stoked, & the fight only added fuel to that fire.
    A classic fight.

Gatti very easily. He was an under-rated boxer with a very heavy dig. Gomez peaked at about 9th or 10th in the division. Wards solidness gave Gatti hell but that was at 140, the only way to trouble him below that was to outbox him.

Gatti would be too much for Gomez who would give all he had.Gatti is just a far superior fighter.

Won a quite a lot of money of Ward in that fight. I knew Neary had his limitations, I remembered Wards name from a "Hot Propects" piece in one of the American magazines a few years earlier and figured it was worth a pnt.

I think we would have an explosive first round and Gomez would be lucky to get through it.

Gomez was a good domestic/European level fighter who could box but loved getting dragged into a tear-up. I can see the comparisons with Gatti to some extent, however, they were simply different levels. Gatti KO6, but may have had to get off the floor to do it.

  15. Gatti by a mile but Gomez would put up a brave effort. I think Gatti would take Gomez's punches better than Gomez would take his.
