Ah yeah because they are both 6' 7", black,, very long ^ both are top contender quality fighters though likely to lose to the very best. Not sure who would win. Wilder has not been challenged & pushed much to develop as fully as he might. Onlt his last fight was against anyone near a contender.
I happen to think Michael Grant is underrated and often gets dumped on as being a weak opponent for Lewis. I watched some of his fights coming up like the Golata battle which was a war. He put together a pretty good string of wins over some decent fighters to reach 30-0 before challenging for the title. Not an easy proposition for Wilder.
I have little doubt that Wilder would make Grant go timber....Physically their similar but Wilder has more skill and is a better puncher.. I don't think it would take him long to land his right hand and put Grant down.
Both are poor and quite obviously are not naturals. I think Grant was better than Wilder though who remains terribly untested despite already having a belt.
How are they not naturals? Wilder took a bronze and heavy title with almost no am experience. Grant was a number one contender without any real am experience. Tony Thompson is the only other heavy in recent times who pulled something similar, unless I'm forgetting someone.
While I am not high on either of them, Grant's career is and has been basically over for long time. Wilder's career is still evolving so we should hold off on comparison. I will say Wilder moves better than Grant. He also holds a bronze medal, even though he earned it in a dubious manner. So I think he could end up better than Grant but I think he's a pretender in the same vein.
I'm surprised anyone's really picking Grant. Wilder too me just looks a lot better all around. I feel Wilder is not only the harder puncher but overall better technique on his punches. Wilder's right hand is one of the better ones I've seen in the heavyweight division he can throw it very straight or loop either way he has tremendous power and throws it with speed as well. Grant on the other hand was a powerful puncher but was more of a heavy puncher. His power came from him just being a big physical guy. Grant's technique always looked very off to me, he didn't use his range well for a big man something Wilder does pretty well and he always looked very mechanical in the ring. What made Grant successful was basically being a freak athlete with tremendous strength also he was well conditioned and very determined. I feel Wilder has the same attributes but much better skills overall to back them up. Personally I think Wilder's win over Stiverne which is completely been over looked since it happened by most was more impressive or at least as impressive as any of Grant's wins. Grant had a few good wins on his record but the only one that jumps out at me as being on Stiverne's level would be Golota. Against Golota Grant was getting whooped but he was the stronger mentally and Golota quit it was a good win that displayed a lot of grit and determination but he didn't showcase the kinda skill Wilder showed in boxing a dominate decision victory against a good opponent like Stiverne. Personally I'm a believer in Wilder I feel hes a good heavyweight champion. A lot of time I find people have a tough time giving fighters credit till later on and like to label any up and comer as a hype train. I can see how some may see Wilder as being this but I think he'll prove to be a force as his career continues remember people doubted Lennox Lewis much the same as people doubt Wilder. Time will certainly tell....
I agree that Wilder looks sharper and better in some ways. But I also concur with others who say that he's still grossly untested. I mean he's around 34-0 and the only two halfway decent guys he's beaten were Stiverne and Scott. One of them had recently been sparked by Derek Chisora while the other was 36 years old and had fought once in two years. Wilder's first title defense against Eric Molina was a joke. Now he's scheduled to defend again two months from now with his opponent still unlisted meaning that you know its not gonna be anyone good. At 29 years of age with a bronze medal, a world title and a 34-0 record, Wilder needs to be taking some big steps up. It's time to chase down guys like Povetkin, Klitschko, Fury, Pulev, Joshua, etc.. At this point I don't even know how he'd fair against Tony Thompson. On that note, Micheal Grant actually accomplished more in his first 30 fights than Wilder has in 34.. He climbed the heavyweight latter by beating Andrew Golata in a very tough fight where he had to come back from adversity to win. He beat other tough notables in Lou Savarese, Obed Sullivan, Jorge Gonzalez, David Izon, Alfred Cole, and Ross Purity.. Not claiming that any of these guys were great but if we're honest, Grant's early record ****es all over anything that Wilder has thus far done.
You ever see Grant windmill like Wilder does? look how "wild" and out of control Wilder got against A-farce..... Grant proved himself against Golota, and a few other good names that put anyone on Wilders record to shame.
