    There's no "mythical prime" Moorer.
There's still prime Michael Moorer though, a guy who was far more accomplished a boxer than Cooney.

8:35 of that video, just too open and poor reaction to being hurt. Cooney would have finished him there.

    And here...

Moorer backing up again and dipping into punches.

And Gerry Cooney was no Alex "so scared I fall down before I get hit" Stewart, either. There was nothing about their size, styles, basically anything that was similar.

The only fighter who put Cooney down for the count was ONE GUY, George Foreman.

    That's it.

He gets in trouble like that against Cooney, he won't. I can't see him out lasting Cooney in a shoot out like he did Stewart and Cooper. Stewart had Moorer badly rocked and on the ropes, Cooper has Moorer down multiple times. He gets trapped by Cooney like that it's curtains.

    I agree.

If nothing else Cooney was one of the best finishers the division has produced. When he got to you, it was over.

    And he'd get to Moorer.

Got to go. Have a good day.

The same could probably be said in reverse. While I agree that Moorer was a better accomplished fighter his opposition wasn't much better.. Beating Holyfield was an excellent win on paper but Evander was fighting injured and with health issues. We saw what happened in the rematch when Holy was healthy. He destroyed Michael despite not even being prime. The rest of his opponents were either past prime or not very good to begin with. A prime Botha was a decent win. Bigfoot Martin decked Moorer and took him the distance. Bert Cooper very nearly had him beat. George Foreman beat them both but the difference is that Cooney wasn't 25 years old and the reigning heavyweight champion of the world when it happened.

Alex Stewart gave a prime Holyfield a very tough fight.
Alex Stewart gave old Foreman a very tough fight.
The only man who wiped out Alex Stewart easily was Mike Tyson, and I wouldn't fancy Cooney's chances against Tyson.
Alex Stewart is about on Cooney's level.

Go on pretending Cooney's record is something great. You might fool someone, who knows.

This PLUS Foreman wasn't exactly improving as his career stretched into his mid 40s.

When the 40 year old George fought Cooney, Foreman was in the midst of a 20 fight winning streak. When the 45-year-old George fought Moorer, Foreman had lost two of his last five fights.

    Gotta go now.

Very true.. The Foreman of 1990 was definitely a bit sharper than the Foreman of 1994..

    Have a good day.

I'm not claiming an easy/early win for Moorer or bigging up his KO wins.

People starting with all this "when Cooney had you hurt you were finished", "you can't get up and win" stuff is silly, because that's based on a few wins over has-beens and third-raters.
People should accept that fact that Moorer was a better class of fighter and that is relevant.

I wouldn't necessarily assume Cooney could beat an injury/ill Holyfield, or take apart an in-shape Alex Stewart.

Well, another big difference is Moorer gave Foreman a very hard fight for almost 10 rounds, Cooney didn't make it out of the second round.

"Is about" is wrong. Gerry never went life and death with freaking Ezra Sellers.

Cooney only lost to Hall of Famers. Cooney beat Ken Norton (who is a hall of famer and was coming off a win over rated Tex Cobb). Cooney tore Jimmy Young's (who was coming off a win over British champ John L. Gardner ... a Jimmy Young who would become highly ranked again AFTER losing to Cooney) face off.

Who was the best fighter Stewart actually beat? I don't think he ever beat a ranked heavyweight EVER. Anyone in the Hall of Fame?

Not unless Jamie Howe is working the door at the Hall of Fame.

Meh.. Not really. Or at least not the first time. I remember watching that fight live on showtime championship boxing and Stewart got cut up and schooled pretty badly. The only round I gave Alex was the fifth when he landed a barage of big shots on Evander. As soon as the round ended Lou Duva chewed him out in the corner saying " quit trying to be a hero and showing you can take shots goddamnit, get in there and punch." After that it was all down hill for Stewart. Alex was clueless in there. He didn't even know how to clinch when he was in trouble. Holy's jab and hooks were landing at will. I actually felt sorry for him.. Not sure what happened in the rematch or if Alex gave him a better fight as I did not see it. But then again by 1993 Evander wasn't exactly prime anymore either.

He gave Holyfield a tough fight. He had Holyfeld backing up at one point. He took a lot of shots, yes.
He wasn't in the least how Dubblechin described him, which was quite disrespectfully, imo.
