Nunn runs like a coward to gain the controversial decision. Anything less and that body of his, is snatched.
I think Nunn coasts way to much for busy technician like McCallum. Nunn had the tools to outbox Mike and even do it fairly clearly when he put all himself into it. But he fades late and mentally fades much earlier...Physically a really impressive middleweight and he was well schooled aswell. But he just seemed to like things easy, whereas Mike didnt mind having to earn his victories. I still think Nunn is a hard style for McCallum..and even as the body shots take their toll I reckon he could hold on to victory, as Mike didnt really have the fight changing power that Toney brought out...In a series I reckon Mike catches him though and probably brutally.
mccallum score's points when nunn is not training for a marathon saying that nunn at his best would make it close useing movement and fast two/three punch combo's but mccallum would slowly close him down bang the body and from the 4th or 5th do enough to get the nod from the judges
Id love to know the fighters that Nunn "boxed the ears" off at middle. He looked god awful against Starling and Barkley...sure he did great for a while against Toney but James aint a busy technician like Mike, he is a counter puncher and not the body puncher Mike is either. I think Nunn could and probably would be able to win this..but he aint doing it easily..He just never put on those kind of performances against guys like Mike.
Nunn tended to get bored with lesser opponents such as Starling and who wouldn't? Few could ever get up for fighters like Moochie. I really dont see Nunn having much problem with MM ando wins comfortably on points
How about destroying unbeaten Frank Tate?He made Tate look like a complete novice. How about Kevin Watts-shut him out the ENTIRE fight.Hell on his way to the title who didn't Nunn outbox? Mccallum could have challenged Nunn if he wanted to but he didn't.Bad style for Mccallum to go against.
You misunderstood what I meant..And I apologise I wasnt clear. What I meant was what fighters did Nunn school who were of McCallum's calibre. Watts, Tate and everybody Nunn took on his way up were not on Mike's level..in fact neither was a blown up Marlon Starling but he gave Nunn a bloody hard fight. Im sure he would have loved to challenged Nunn..but he lost to Kalambay. And by the time his stocks were back up to where they needed to be to challenge Nunn..Micheal lost and so McCallum took on his conquerer. Im not sure if a fight between them was ever pushed by either party but given McCallum's tendecy to travel half away across the world to fight dangerous fighters that no one else wanted to take on..Id say he wouldnt have had an issue taking a fight against Nunn.
At Nunns best he had the look of a future all time great,but the later part of his career made fans forget that.When he beat tate,and kalamby he looked unbeatable. Leonard didnt want a fight him.I had to think about this one for a little,but im going with nunn by decision,at his best hed win 117-111 ,but if he put one of his slack performances,i like the "Body Snatcher"!!!
I know the Kevin Watts and the Frank Tates were not on Mccallums level but it was how Nunn was beating them-winning every round with ease while hardly getting hit.Its such a shame that Nunn wasted his talent. And Mccallum could have challenged Nunn instead of Kalambay but he didn't-remember there was a time when Nunn was begging for a name fighter to face him.
Mike challenged Sumbu in early 88 and sort of fell off the radar for a year...Nunn wasnt champion till mid-late 88. Doesnt fit.
