After reading the Nunn-Hagler thread I got to thinking about this what if matchup....?? Who wins this one, Nunn is the taller man with a good jab and fast hands, Jones is faster and has a bigger punch, both men are extremely confident fighters it would be a great show for as long as it lasted if nothing else... Who would bring the pressure and who would look to counter?? I see Nunn bringing the fight to Jones who loves to counter punch.. I have to think for a bit to decide how I see it playing out..

I'd take Spinks. Jones still has a good chance, though. But Jones will be facing a much taller and possibly the greatest H2H Light Heavyweight of all time.

Jones has the better speed and their power is about equal at that weight, maybe the slightest edge to Spinks.

Jones is a much better Middle/Super Middleweight.

    I'd say 60/40 for Spinks.

EDIT: **** I though it said Spinks.....sry I just woke up, about to go out and PARTY SOON!

Anyways with this matchup, Jones definitely has the better speed and power for sure. Nunn would win about 3 rounds, but Jones would possibly TKO him around 7 or 8 or would win a UD very clearly.

  3. spinks would destroy jones at lhw.
about this fight prime vs prime i pick jones by ud, nunn would do this fight very interesting, he was very big for a mw, he was 6ยด3 LIKE ALI ,and very fast, prime nunn is absoulutely underrated, he was a great fighter.

i think this is a much, much tougher fight for jones than many others that have been tossed around over the years. nunn's height, speed and unorthodoxy would be a *****. we're talking about a prime and confident nunn who would not allow jones to dictate the pace from the outside as normal. tough, tough UD win for jones, by a point or 2

Yes, this would be a very hard-fought decision win for Jones, due to Nunn's own speed and range.

I see the majority of you seem to feel pretty much the exact same way as I do on this one, I think Nunn gives him a real fight!! Nunn had blazing speed, was very tall and his style was herky- jerky (best way for me to describe it) he would pop in and out moving only his trunk and pepper the **** out of you, he could overwhelm you with his speed and angles.. His size would give Jones trouble ala Tarver.. All this being said I would still pick RJJ, but I would love to see this fight!!

Jones just edges Nunn, probably by a knockdown or two.

good description. the more i think about it, the more i think nunn would be a middleweight michael spinks, who would also provide a massive challenge to jones at 175

Not familiar with Nunn past the Toney fight, but if Toney could catch him like that, I would bet Jones could too, and all in all Jones had nastier power than Toney did at 160.

but he was a much different fighter. toney needed a LOT of rounds to get that counter punch working and jones didn't fight the same. it would be an athletic battle rather than a technical one

    I love the Toney/Nunn fight.

Nunn won the first 7 rounds clearly. Then Toney started figuring him out and won rounds 8-11. Obviously knocking Nunn down twice in the 11th and the ref stopping the fight.

Jones would stop him, and in a more comprehensive and timlier way than Toney did.

Yes! Definitely an athletic performance by both men, esp. Jones.
