Maybe against a fighter with better stamina. While Lewis never faded late, Tyson's stamina was actually better during his pre-prison reign. In 1997 I'd say its 50/50 But if we take 1987-1988 Tyson: Tyson via stoppage.
This Lewis chin stuff. He has been stopped twice in his his whole carea. Thsi fight is prime for prime. Lewis has hsi prime at 1996 or 1997 either way up untill 2000. Not once was he KOed. During that time he took bombs from many big punches such as Briggs and Mercer. Outsied of his prime he was KOed 2 times. Tyson was stopped 5 times , again non of these are in his prime unless you want to say he is still prime in 1990 in which case he was KOed once in his prime. This myth that Tysons chin is so much better than that of Lewis is out there. Yes Lewis was dropped with one big punch , thats one big punch that wouldnt land on a prepared conditioned Lewis and probably wouldnt KO him.
:deal THIS -PS Anyone with on Lewis at his best being the 227 version against Ruddock?? I don't think he was ever better
Yes..but in fairness...tysons first few loses where after taking a hardcore beating. His later loses where more conditioning and having no fighting heart left. Lewis on the other hand went a few times when he was tagged flush on the chin.....and got hurt more times by other fighters, thing briggs lewis..the first round..when lewis was clearly very hurt.
The early version of Lewis (ala vs Ruddock) would IMO probably go in with a mindset to knock Tyson the **** out. It would make for an outrageously entertaining fight and it would be very interesting if Lewis hurt Tyson early and followed up. Bruno after all, wobbled a slightly past-prime Tyson in 1989 and if Bruno could then I think Lewis could also. The problem for Lewis though is that Tyson was fast and threw great power combinations. I'm now leaning towards Tyson knocking out that version of Lewis within 5 rounds. A Lewis victory by KO though is not something that can be considered impossible, by any means. In saying that though,Tyson would be too fast and Lewis would not (at that point) have the skills or mindset to deal with it. However, that version of Lewis is not the prime version. If we take the Golota version of Lewis, more cautious (although not in that fight!) with better footwork and a better jab. That version of Lewis takes care of the 1988 Tyson by tying him up on the inside and throwing the right uppercut to keep Tyson honest. It would unfold a bit like their actual fight although with Tyson being somewhat more competitive. Lewis should have taken care of Tyson a little quicker in their actual fight and IMO if Tyson tastes the power of Lewis it will discourage him come the middle and later rounds. Prime 1988 Tyson vs prime 1997 Lewis I pick Lewis every time.
if tyson is hapy to get out-boxed from teh outside like he was VS Buster - then Lennox KO's him in 7. if Tyson comes out fast trying to KO Lewis - then Lennox KO's him in 3.
Thats only true in regards to the Rahman loss, the McCall loss he was just caught with a great shot end of story, anything else is just an excuse.
So Tyson in his prime is stopped faster than the shell that Lewis actually stopped? Have you made a good post yet?
