Oh please, cry me a river. There were good and bad fights in every era including current one. Some people are just prone to whine about it louder that's all. 1998: " Everything you- needed to know about the current sad state of boxing in general and the heavyweight division in particular was revealed in a span of three days in the last week" 1994: "And so the heavyweight boxing division is in a time warp, not to mention a shambles, not to mention a state of incredulity. George Foreman, old, fat and immobile, won two-thirds of the available titles Saturday night." 1988: "Tyson looks unbeatable, especially given the sorry state of the heavyweight division." 1984: "Usually, the heavyweight division carries boxing, but it's a disaster." 1982: "Tonight's match (Holmes-Cobb), of course, reflects the sorry state of heavyweight boxing, once the most important division in the game."
Firstly, you pulled out a few quotes talking about previous eras, i could show you TWICE as many about this eras heavyweights. Secondly Name one decent fight, that has captured the worlds imagination. Apart From Lewis-Vitali, because Lewis was from the same era as Tyson, Holyfield and Bowe. Name one fight since then during the Klitschko era that will go down as Ali-Frazier, Tyson-Spinks, Bowe-Holyfield, Tyson-Holyfield or even Tyson-Lewis etc????? If you cant find an answer, ill tell you why. Its because both the champions and the challengers are garbage.
This is one of those fights that look close until you take a real and honest look at both on film. I like Vitali and prefer watching him over his brother (lately) but I think Tyson just overwhelms him. Vitali can certainly survive to hear the final bell (lesser fighters than him did against Tyson) but that doesn't translate to a victory. Vitali's stamina wasn';t superb either, he got tired in both the Sanders and Lewis fight.
He wouldn't hear the final bell, I'm convinced of it. VITLAY isn't durable, we've seen enough evidence of that in his career to date. Just like his brother he's content to pull in rounds against fatasses but when he fights a 'real' fighter....he's ****ed. Tyson was a 'real' fighter and it'd be an early night. Either KO or quittage, doesn't matter, all points to the same result. Tyson by KO.
I believe it would be a ribalta type ass whooping Vitali doesnt clinch, so hes going to have to move around. His footwork is ****, so hes not going to exactly run circles around Tyson. He would need to give Tyson angles to frustrate him. That means he will be standing in front of Tyson. Standing in front of Tyson = an Early night for VK A poor version of Tyson went 10 with Holyfield. And Holyfield is leagues above Vitali. I dont fancy Vitalis chances.
But Green, Till, Tucker all ran for 12 rounds and Smith decided to hug. Those guys who stood in front of Tyson were mown down Ribalta, Tubbs, Berbick, Spinks etc
Mike Tyson is a top 10 heavyweight, V Klitschko is at best 25-35. So the ball is in Iron Mike's court. A knock out win for Tyson, probably in rounds 8-9. As I remember, VK was all over the place after a couple of solid blows from Lennox Lewis. Tyson punched like a beast and could no doubt inflict greater damage.
Its even absurd to mention VK in the same breath as Tyson. I think it would be very similar to the Berbick fight, watch Berbick and tell me he doesnt fight like Vitali. Both tall and awkard and supposedly durable
Tyson within 3 rounds...Vitali fans would later claim that he had a chin injury, when he cut himself shaving 3 months earlier.
Vitali's talent was stoppages not necessarily concussive KO's. Still, I have to take Mike in this one by UD.
